Let me give you an experience, I applied for a teaching job under TESCOM in one state. Passed their cbt test well above the cut off mark for non indigene, was called for the interview and equally handled it well.

When the list of successful candidate was released, I was not picked. What counted against me.

I was applying for a field that was not among the areas they needed most.

I pitched my qualification against a strong field where my qualification is not related directly but indirectly.

I was stubborn, I ignored the indigene factor while others were leveraging on it.

What is the strategy here?

1. There are many sharks out there looking for same meat you want.

2. You must be willing to discern and seek distinct areas in job application where those you are competing with are not willing to dare including the way you approach your connection and what they offer.

3. If your medicine is for headache. Tell those who need, it is for headache. Convince them with experience both small and troublesome headache you cure with it. Don't trouble them with the fact that it equally cure dysentry you don't know who will pick your file.

4. Offer to go 2 miles when they offer you one or pick the difficult choice that will surprise them. Na you know wetin you dey find. Be flexible with your connections.

5. You are in the field of education. You should be familiar with psychology. Don't underestimate that in job search, in the way you apply and during the test and interview. Over the years recruiters learn psychology directly and indirectly in the way they handle candidates.


In all I believe with the experience based on the qualifications you have attained, there are some distinct and special roles and experience you can fill that are needed someplace somewhere you are not looking at and applying the right pressure there. Check!

In this case being strategic will be to strike where the iron is hot the most. You cannot be well qualified in both NCC and NNPC 100%. The field is not same, their mode of operation different. What they need and where they need personnel differs. Check that with what you have, your resources and connections.

While it is indeed true some get government jobs without connections, I don't think it's accurate to say "many". "Some" will be better. That's my opinion anyway.

Majority gets the job via connections with no payments whatsoever. Minority get it through job slot sales (even though many won't admit). Only a few get it without connections or payments and there are jobs you will never get through this route.

It's actually 95% connection and 5% luck

Even at that there are some agencies that are 100% connection, no luck whatsoever.
