While it is indeed true some get government jobs without connections, I don't think it's accurate to say "many". "Some" will be better. That's my opinion anyway.

Majority gets the job via connections with no payments whatsoever. Minority get it through job slot sales (even though many won't admit). Only a few get it without connections or payments and there are jobs you will never get through this route.

Whether many or some, what is needed to be established is people can still get jobs without connections.

This reminds me of people who equally underestimate newspaper advert about government jobs. Some will say all the positions are already filled before the newspaper advert and yet a close relative at over 40 years got a federal government job from reading a job advert from the same newspaper without connections a newspaper we had to send to him because it was the same newspaper myself and those seeking admission into these federal universities back then had to be on the lookout for to get required information regarding how to go about registration when you eventually secure admission.

All these is to encourage that person who had accumulated numerous certifications and over 30 years not to be overly concerned in the direction of connections. If he has connections fine, if connections no dey he has the capacity to fight his way through like others in the past, present and future had done and will do respectively.

For instance, they both has account departments and as a chartered accountant, you can work in both. Even as a communication expert, you can work in both. As an ICT expert, you can work in both etc etc

There's really nothing about being strategic if you are qualified. Even that tescom job you talked about earlier, you could have gotten it if you know someone at tescom HQ. It won't matter if you are not an indigene. I know the state you talked about. I know the year. I know some non indigene who passed got in while some indigene who passed didn't, even in subjects that they didn't need many candidates.

Ask for favour. Try use connections if you have it. Forget being strategic. All strategy belongs to God. Use resources to get information.

In this case being strategic will be to strike where the iron is hot the most. You cannot be well qualified in both NCC and NNPC 100%. The field is not same, their mode of operation different. What they need and where they need personnel differs. Check that with what you have, your resources and connections.

Even when one has connections, they must be those who are equally strategic and holding strategic positions in those places or related to those places our eyes dey look.

A bill for an Act to establish the South east commission has passed third reading in the 10th Assembly.

The Senate unanimously took the decision at the Committee of the whole chaired by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio after consideration of the South East Development Commission (establishment) bill by the Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti central.


The commission will be saddled with the responsibility to receive and manage funds from allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war.

The bill is also expected to tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the South-East states.
