There are willing Nigerians in top places willing to sell and subvert the interests of Nigerians. But often time they do so unconsciously. They hv been colonial brainwashed that the white man is a god and the Europeans capitalize on it. That's why you hear Nigerians say things like "Just give the Refinery to Europeans to run, they will run it better" most are brajnwashed.

Europe has energy needs and they need cheap energy and they won't let go of Nigeria since they get cheap crude from here which they now refine ij their own refineries.

Final point is that often Nigerian elite in NNPC and Co act in the interest of the western countries also due to their greed.

If Nigeria was wise it would project it's money into building infrastructure for natural resources first which would raise the standards of living and bring in better foreign exchange then see where that leads to instead of budgeting money for projects like the 4th mainland bridges and the rest which would end up bringing unnecessary fossil fuels burning and more traffic gridlock. There are abundant natural resources in Nigeria which we all know would never dry up ranging from petroleum, natural gas, aluminum, tin, iron ore, coal, limestone, lead, zinc and arable land for agriculture. Nigeria need smart cities and buildings not just economic buildings. Congrats to Dangote groups for their achievements and feats.

Olodo ni e. Likewise, Mynd44 and those liking his comment.

The refinery does not need 19.5million barrels before it can function or start refining. What Dangote is doing is stockpiling.

If you don’t know, only 40% of refining capacity will be put to use for a start. It means that total barrels of crude needed in a day is 260,000bpd.

A barrel of crude oil can give 159 liters of petrol, among other derivatives.

So, from the 260,000bpd crude oil, the refinery will get 41.3million liters of petrol per day from it.
Nigeria consumes less than 30million liters of petrol per day (especially during this economic hardship, I don’t think it will be up to 25million per day) including the ones being smuggu!ed to neighboring countries.

Currently, on ground, Dangote has over 10million bpd of crude oil. If we are to calculate total number of liters that can be derived from 10m of crude oil, we will have 1,590,000,000 liters of petrol.

If you divide this 1.59billions of liters of petrol by 30,000,000 liters that we assume we consume in a day, Dangote already has a refined petrol that can last for 53 days.
Why we are consuming this, he would have received other shipments of crudes.

Please note that I only used the lowest figures of crude oil receipts. The actual figures are higher than that.
who doesn’t understand all these?? Instead of you to use it to broaden our understanding with this in-depth analysis, you want to take away the shine and put yours for showmanship purpose. LMAO!!

Buy Crude from Ghana?

I used to think highly of you before. But you fall my hand

650,000bpd? And you think NNPC cannot meet up? At the minimum NNPC, produces 1.2mbpd and putting local needs first means Dangote's request will always be prioritized.

The major problem here is the $3.3bn Crude oil for Cash Agreement with Afrexim, which is a sham by the way. Hence, the NNPC is stuck between:

1. Keeping up with the loan facility agreement with AFREXIM.

2. Selling crude to meet up with FAAC Allocations and

3. Meeting up with local request.

But my question is, why can't NNPC advise Dangote to import from Russia?

The delivery timeline is quicker, their oil is better than WTI and, the exchange rate is better.

Gooood! Deliver us from this people o
Actually you have a very good advice about NNPC advicing dangote to import from Russia. But the west is fighting Russia now through various sanction because of Ukraine war and if dangote or Nigeria try to do anything with them. The US government and the west would reck us with sanction. Our own would even be worst more than Venezuela because we don't produce anything😂

pls educate us on "why Dangote had to import crude that Nigeria has".
Simply because Nigerias crude has been pre-sold for some years. Some long term customers have pre-bought our crude for some time to come and will expose Nigeria to litigation if we default, so Dangote will only get from Nigeria under two options.
1. Nigeria substantially increases its production capacity which cannot be done overnight.
2. Dangote waits until nnpc,'s contract with some of those customers expires and he takes their place.
So, for now Dangote being a private business has no option but to source for crude elsewhere.
Either way, these are positives and not negatives for us because it simply means there is more demand for our oil which will spur govt to work towards increasing production capacity.
Frankly speaking, I think we need to understand how things work before criticising govt, no bi everything we go just dey criticise for criticism sake on international forums like Nairaland. It speaks to our exposure and awareness of issues. If you are going to attack govt have your solid points, and there are many.

Dangote also needs that stash so it it doesn't run out during production. The alternative is to buy and when the tanks are filled, they can start buying just the daily amount.

Don't you wonder why Dangote isn't buying from Ghana or closer countries? Because theu also have agreements to keep to

Really, I am afraid for us. Are these the youth that wants to take over from older generations? No critical thinking, no research, no investigation of issues, no fact-based arguments but beer-palour debates. As we speak American youths are doing their research to counter older hypothesis but ours are here making surface-level arguments.

This is definitely a sad news. I believe Nigeria would been up to task to deliver every crude oil that Mr Dangote needs, but cannot since we need dollars to pay our debt and also using same crude oil to pay debt. PEACE be unto you Nigeria!!
With 1.5 million barrels per day, Nigeria can not meet up with the supply need of Dangote and port Harcourt refineries for now.

Also crude oil varies. Refineries ordered crude oil based on the refined oil they want to produce to maximize profits

Some crude oil are very good for diesel production but may cost more if they are used to produce Petrol

Story Story...

Don't be surprised to find out Dangote has exported and sold the rumored crude oil shipment he received from NNPC.

The guy man don locate better oil business without even lighting up his refinery.

Your last question is what still bothers me... Are they telling us Dangote didn't know that we don't have crude oil to give him when he wanted to start building? As in, with all his connections to people in power, he didn't know there's no crude oil for him?

Before Dangote refinery, government always said the problem was that we didn't have a functional refinery... Now that we have a functional refinery, government is saying there's no crude oil
