Billions Of Naira Lost As Fire Guts Sokoto Central Market by Wisdomkosi(op): 1:24pm On Mar 18, 2024
The Sokoto Central market was gutted by fire earlier today, with the motorcycles and bicycle dealers mainly affected.

An All Progressives Congress member, HB Mayana, shared photos from the devastating incident on X this morning.

He wrote: “Sokoto Central market faced a devastating fire earlier today, particularly impacting the motorcycles and bicycle dealers.

“Preliminary reports suggest losses amounting to billions of Naira. Our thoughts are with the victims. May Allah reward them abundantly.”

Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke with Punch said the Sokoto Central market fire emanated from a dump site close to the motorcycle section.

Reacting, the chairman of Motorcycles Marketers Association, Shehu Muhammad, said they could not quantify the number of motorcycles destroyed by fire because the fire was still raging.

“We cannot quantify the number of motorcycles burnt down by the fire now because the fire is still raging.

“But many people lost their shops along with their motorcycles because they could not come in time as the fire started around 6 am.

“But men of the federal and state fire services are currently battling, but I know it will take some time before they can quench it all,” he said.

Life has a way of telling expensive jokes ... If a thief came and stole 0.001% if that from that marker , he will be lynched but billions have gone up in smoke and nothing can be done about it.

Notice how most people are no longer complaining of services like Fire Service? It’s because of how Tinubu and Buhari lowered the bar of governance

People are now only asking for a means of survival

It is high time major markets in Nigeria have fire trucks stationed near them exclusively for the markets and have regular Fire drills.

Fire don't happen everyday but when it does, so much is lost at once.

We're obviously in the era of lost, either as an individual or organization..

Everyone's busy losing one valuable asset or the other..

My heart goes to the struggling traders, who had all their savings invested in the market embarassed...

Again? That market has continued to face fire outbreak. Can't the local authorities do something to stem the incessant destruction of property including putting in place fire fighting facilities?

I have not bought anything in weeks because no money, but I know when I try, I would be depressed due to their inflation (on old stocks).

May God condole those that lost their resources in the fire. It is so devastating to be a victim of fire outbreak, especially in this Tinubu government and Nigeria is not a country where insurance works well.
