Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 6:43am On Mar 20 |
Who actually made that law that exempt the religious groups from paying taxes? Because I am still wondering why the churches, mosques and co are exempted from paying taxes upon billions of Naira they are raking annually. Sometimes when you see the way Nigerians complain about hardship because some have this mentality that FG should be responsible for their needs, the question that always come to my mind is, how much are this people paying as tax compared to the amount they give as tithes and sakkat at Church and mosque? If you have been paying more tithes/sakkat without getting any in return, yet apart from indirect tax, you hardly pay your tax, why not hold the religious body you have been donating to be more accountable before the government? |

Sakkat is totally different from tithe, sakkat are given to less privilege people during the month of Ramadan not to the mosque.it only those who have stable flow of income |

helinues: Funny atheists! Instead of finding out what Christianity really stands for you have concluded that all those claiming Christians are Christians so whatever they practice is Christianity shey? Well the only money true Christians gather is called "OFFERING" it's out of this they go about with all the things they need as a group tithes is not part of what Christians practice because it has no place in Christianity that's why those practicing it can't figure out what to do with it hence their leaders makes it their personal money! |

MaxInDHouse: Wetin this one dey talk? Who imposed the tax exemption on churches back then if not the Knights Templar? Being religious shouldn't stop one from being logical |

helinues: So in a nutshell it's those who seized power that makes and discard rules shey? Why are you asking if you know that politicians are the ones making and abolishing laws? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 10:00am On Mar 20 |
MaxInDHouse: The questioning was to politicians. Why should we be following a law that is obsolete? Religious groups are now more or less business center |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by MaxInDHouse(m): 10:01am On Mar 20 |
helinues: Who calls it "OBSOLETE" politicians in power or you? |

MaxInDHouse: What is it to you? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by MaxInDHouse(m): 10:11am On Mar 20 |
helinues:If you study political science you will know that there is nothing called obsolete in the laws human government makes because after each system of government new set of rules comes up which may favour people who has been cut off in the past. For instance Democracy was founded 580 BCE so today it's over 2,500 years yet some countries are still fighting against it while those who started it has discarded it long ago! |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 10:13am On Mar 20 |
MaxInDHouse: If those who founded it have discarded it, what are we still doing with it? |

helinues: Are you pretending not to know why religious organisation are exempted from paying taxes? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 10:54am On Mar 20 |
triplechoice: In Nigeria, No. Why should a business center be exempted from paying taxes? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by Veecruz: 11:28am On Mar 20 |
helinues: Is it not profitable to the New vagabonds in power? Even if every body including churches and co pays taxes, it will still be like this and people will still starve and your kings will always be eating fat and living large |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by MaxInDHouse(m): 12:49pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: That's to show you the main reason behind it those who are keeping it now are using it to enslave the nations they are forcing it upon. |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by triplechoice(m): 1:09pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: You're conflating two unrelated things. A business centre should not be exempted from paying taxes, but Churches and mosques which are set up as charitable organisations receiving donations from members ,and even the government itself, to be used for charitable works shouldn't be taxed . You need to provide factual reasons why they should and not your bias talk of describing them as "business centres". What you're advocating for is akin to jungle justice for a group you personally dislike due to your ideological position, and it clearly exposes your anti religion stance. No responsible government anywhere in the world would ever listen to your kind to start taxing religious organisations. It's better instead to demand the government set up something in place to monitor church and mosques finances so they're used for the purposes they're meant for and not embezzled by religious leaders within either groups |

helinues: Can you tell me what they're selling? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 1:12pm On Mar 20 |
MaxInDHouse: If they are not selling anything why are people paying/tithing? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by UnstableFC: 1:13pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: So that means you don't want to be useful? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by triplechoice(m): 1:22pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: You should first of all explain how they're business centres. Finish what you started and don't use "mago mago" to threw it back at me. Prove they're a business centres that should be taxed. It's your responsibility to do that, not mine. |

helinues: So when people come together to contribute towards a goal it has become a business venture to you shey? Now i know what controls your thoughts: poverty Only poor people loose their thinking caps anytime they see money! |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 1:27pm On Mar 20 |
MaxInDHouse: Could you please elaborate about the goal. How beneficiary is it to those who have been donating for years? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by MaxInDHouse(m): 1:28pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: What if i tell you that it's not all religious centers that receive tithes in cash for instance in my own religion we also pay tithes but it has nothing to do with cash deposits! |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by triplechoice(m): 1:28pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: Tithing is religious obligation and not payment for anything. |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by helinues: 1:31pm On Mar 20 |
triplechoice: Why paying for something you won't benefit from? Have you bother to question those who made it so? |
Re: Tax Vs Tithes/sakkat by MaxInDHouse(m): 1:32pm On Mar 20 |
helinues: Jesus organized his disciples and commanded them to take the message to all the nations {Matthew 28:19-20} they will need money for transportation, building worship centers in places where converts increases, to get Bibles and other Bible based publications, disaster relief materials and so on. All these JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES (true Christians) are enjoying even though we don't pay tithes in cash! |
