The lowest amount proposed by Labour is #447K. The highest amount proposed by the Governors is #45K. Tinubu may or may not announce the new minimum wage in May. Either way, Nigerian workers still have an uphill battle before them. |

Good! Announcing it is one thing. State government implementing the new salary structure is another thing. Up till date some states have not implemented the previous #30k minimum wage announced some years back. Nigeria we hail thee!! |

Government of the future, for the future and by the future. It's always "may" "shall" "will" "going to" . They are never actionable. That's why you can't hold them accountable. |

Hmm... New minimum wage might not be more than 100k-120k. However, all political office holders should also earn minimum wage. They are servants and are to serve the people, so given the peculiar situation in the country, they should earn the minimum wage applicable. Also, there is need to strengthen the purchasing power of Nigerians. With this, 100k-120k would be fine. |

How I wish politicians will also be placed on minimum wage so that they'll understand the plight of workers. Looting has become their main function. Also, why is the current rate of dollar is not reflecting on the prices of good? Na we be our main problem in the country. |

Ofunaofu:You mean fuel subsidy that has increased your state and local government faac? The country kept on subsiding fuel for almost half the continent, a trillion naira every year. Money that could have built new roads and achieve a higher standard of living for the common man. Or is it the CBN policy where bank managers and high power players gets dollar for 400/1 while the common man gets it at black market for 700/1? Be specific with what you meant by calamity policy |
| Re: Tinubu May Announce New Minimum Wage On Workers’ Day by LordAdam16: 6:52am On Mar 23, 2024 |
helinues:It should be at least $100. Jonathan paid >$120. Buhari with a recession and low oil prices/output set it at $80. With the volatility and rapid devaluation of the FX rate in recent history, workers should get a high wage starting out. Because for all we know, rates could fall another 50% by next year. 800K is obviously an unfunny joke. Still, Cardoso could temporarily push down the FX rate to 900. Workers will be pleased with an 80K wage ($88). Then in 3 months, he'd let it fall back to 1600. Scratch that, he wouldn't have a choice. Because when wages increase, more naira will chase the dollar forcing an inevitable decline in the FX rate. This is why the starting rate must be >$100. Because there's no way it'll still be $100 in one year, never mind 4 years. -Lord |
