GanagiBitrus: Very unfair, look at the big picture, Egypt is an extremely well organised country with professional sports administration at a high level in some cases on a par with Europe. Same as South Africa and Morocco to name a few. Nigeria coming second despite poor and corrupt administrators and facilities as well as a pathetic level of sports administration shows the resilience of our athletes. The hoops a Nigerian athlete has to go through to win their medals, Egyptian ones wouldn't make it to the Games if they did, never mind competing and winning medals. Well done to out athletes, truly Naija no dey carry last. 2 Likes |

Procashtips: It's because the sporting area of their strengths have already been conquered by USA / Russia / France / China etc with better training infrastructure. They will have little competition in Africa in those sporting areas due to their population (being significantly whites). |

What games did Egypt get most of their medals in? If we work on that, we can close up the gap in 4years and compete in about 10years. 1 Like |

inoki247: That's the simple truth No quota No politician's candidate/list No Villa list No organising committee list And so on Nigeria needs to learn this and do well in the upcoming Olympics How Nigeria didn't have swimmers during last Olympics is surprising Hopefully, not this time |

Basicend: At the bolded 1.SImone BIles would like to disagree with you about black people not being good at gymnastics. Seeing as she is black and the most decorated American gymnast of all time. 2.Black people in the US are not good swimmers because decades of historical racisim meant that black people were excluded from public and private swimming pools. (IN one american town over 70 years ago, black people were allowed to use the pool once a week, which was kind of fortunate. IN some towns, they were never let near any pool). 3.Also, going back to Nigeria, sports that have a base in the schools are sports we are going to excell in. Swimming and gymnastics have no base at our school level. There aren't enough swimming pools, enough places for gymnasts to practice , and so on. (BY contrast, there are tons of althletics and football competitions. And a lot of table tennis. Naturally....) 4.And there isn't enough interest. NO interest, not enough athletes. 5.NO structure. Gymnastics, for example, requires training to begin when the athlete is very very young....to get the body used to being flexible from an early age. Nigeria does not have the structures to bring up gymnasts. 3 Likes |

Cmeo: Yes, that is a good question. Our government is largely to blame. We don't have a vibrant sport ministry. And we focus too much on football. Do you know that other sport federations like the Hockey Federation are almost totally responsible for their own funding? Yet the NFF is getting funding to the point that we even hear allegations of immense corruption. Football is not the only sport in the world. The Ministry of Sport needs to be very much involved in Youth Development. If we go to Maroko or Ilaje, we will find many swimming prospects there. Natural swimmers. They were born on water and live all their lives on water, and yet we are not dominating swimming, even in West Africa. The Ministry of Sport needs to do more. |

Nice one. We were rated as a non sporting nation by one useless media outlet like that, I saw how Cameroonians,Ghanaians and South Africans gloated over the useless list. Now it’s clear for all to see. |

Why does Egypt invest so much in sport? It is usually a sign that the country is well developed and doing well, so on that basis Nigeria as a country is developing quite well, but likely attributed to the Buhari administration as the effects the delayed effects of Tinubu's disastrous administration has not yet noticeably impacted our sporting performance. |
