Apostle John described seeing God seated on a throne and the four living creatures worshiping Him. When he was taken into heaven to see this vision did he have to pass the planets, the solar system before getting to heaven?

Isaiah 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth

Your question is like asking, did Isaiah saw the four corners of the earth before mentioning it?

Please remind me what the North, East, West and South cardinal directions of the earth means as the four corners of the earth?

The same Isaiah in Isaiah 40:22 knew the earth was circle in shape thousands of years before the flat earth debate and space exploration.

I will say, it's either he saw a vision in the clouds at that point, that means he did not see real pictures of Jesus at the right side of God.
Or they were mere imaginations or beliefs of his heart that was transmitted to his eyes.

Whatever he saw can be interpreted rightly that Jesus is approved of God, simple.

the cardinal points are not just only four, so he could not possibly refer to the cardinal points.

Look at the chart below.
That was how people used to understand the earth in ancient times
