Tinubu Has Approved FCT's N1.1trn 2024 Statutory Budget - Wike by fergie001(mod): 11:22am On Apr 02, 2024
President Bola Tinubu has approved the Federal Capital Territory’s over N1.1trn statutory budget for the 2024 fiscal year.

The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this during an ongoing media chat at his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

He expressed delight over the assent by the president, and explained that the budget will impact on infrastructure development, healthcare facilities, as well as rehabilitation of schools in the FCT, amongst others.

The development comes on the heels of the FCT appropriation bill passing the second reading at the Senate last month.

A breakdown analysis of the N1.1trn budget, indicated that N280bn was earmarked for overhead, N726bn for capital projects, and N140bn for personnel, bringing the total budget to N1.147tn.

Leading the debate, the sponsor of the bill and Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, said the appropriation bill took into cognisance the FCT administration’s revenue and expenditure forecasts which are in tandem with fiscal and developmental policies of the Federal Government.

N280billion for overhead out of 1trillion huh

Not very good economic sense, especially in these cost cutting times...what is the value for this high overhead expenditure?

Nigerian ministries keep spending money, but what is the rate of returns?

These ministries and government offices/parastatals needs to be earning money into public purse, this expenditure for overhead is too much.

1.1 trillion naira for Federal Capital Territory that is pretty much developed. What is Wike going to spend 1.1 trillion Naira on in one year?

There are other states and other sectors that need that money much more than the FCT.
The Ministry of Science and Technology in the whole of Nigeria has a budget less than 100 billion naira.
Ekiti State has a budget of just 159 billion naira for 2024. Almost the same amount Wike was given for personnel costs.

Tinubu has just handed Wike a settlement package for the role he played in 2023 and given him more money to prepare for 2027.

The same way he settled his son-in-law with FHA and 126 billion naira. He has been settling all his cronies since he took office.

We all know Tinubu is the grandfather of corruption in Nigerian politics but he should spend Nigeria's money as if there's tomorrow.
Re: Tinubu Has Approved FCT's N1.1trn 2024 Statutory Budget - Wike by flexyrule(m):
Hon. Wike is doing exceptionally well as compared to his predecessors (aside El-Rufai though).

He has turned Abuja into a construction site. And tons of projects that have been abandoned for decades are now being executed.

But he should prioritize satellite towns... That's the area that needs urgent attention. All these ready-made roads that he is scrapping and reconstructing were already in good shape.

Abuja needs housing schemes in satellite towns, and decentralisation of the central business district, so that the CBD can be decongested and development can reach other areas.
