Focus on finance, Good you have good programming skills and knowledge. Try to register for ACCA, if you haven't. With ACCA,you can work as an accountant anywhere in the world.

Okay is software engineering the only niche in tech?

https:///m0knc5

Other nitches are not easy to approach.

I recognize data science, robotics, project management e.t.c..these fields don't produce jobs as much as software engineering

Forget about all these speculations you are doing in Nigeria, there is no way you can enter the US legally as a student and not get sponsorship after your study, unless you are not a smart Nigerian. If you no see sponsorship in Tech or Finance, you look for it in another field, cleaner, hotelier, care assistant, porter, etc. You can even pay for sponsorship, if you're schooling you try and be working and saving for your sponsorship incase, just have good orientation and make smart friends you will be settled.

Am a recent masters grad from a US university.
Although I got a good job after graduation, I won't recommend this route if you're not very bright. The odds of success aren't high, due to the present job market and the H1B situation.

You can risk it though. Other advise will be to try and secure funding, full or partial
Re: Which Of These Two Careers Can Help Me Migrate To The US? by Youngman50: 9:13am On Apr 03
Getting an H1B is increasingly difficult. So even if you have an employer willing to sponsor, it doesn't guarantee anything

Investment banking is not easy to get into. It’s usually children of the big boys that get in with few brilliant ordinary people. Your best bet is to enter a big 4 audit firm.

Op, whatever you want to do, just focus on the future, you can pick a IT field and that working to improve yourself on it everyday, give it minimum of two hours daily and you will just keep growing. Make sure no matter how tiring or boring it is , learn something about it daily

This is what separates people from success and failure , I wish you the best of luck

Tech is becoming saturated..everyone is going there .I have many jobless tech guys begging me for work everyday.

AI code generators are even better than humans

Cloud engineers, database admin, software developers (full stack/backend), DevOps (Azure, AWS, kubernetes, dockers) are in hot demands and scarce commodity to get.

Web development is saturated as you can use online tools to design your website

Hello all.
I am a fresh Accounting graduate awaiting NYSC and I need to make a life changing decision that I will not regret.

I plan to go into Finance, Investment Banking specifically. It resonates with my degree and I can prepare for an entry level role during NYSC.

I picked up Web development during my final year. I have a solid knowledge of HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript now.

I plan to go to the USA through the study route (Masters) and stay back legally.

For Finance:
Within Nigeria, I can get an internship and later an entry level role in one of the numerous investment banking firms in Nigeria.

In USA, I'll need to do MBA. After, to get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa is war because there are tons of capable citizens better than me. I was even told if I'm not in the STEM field, I should forget sponsorship from employers.
Even if I get sponsorship, there are only 85k H1b slots per year, in 2023, about 483k people applied.😭

For Tech:
Within Nigeria, I barely saw any internship opening. Remote internships in foreign companies are the worst. Within 5 hours, 1k people have applied. The job requirements alone will take me over a year to achieve. Same as normal junior job openings... Supply is more than demand.

In USA, I'll need to do Masters in Computer science(I can only work with a degree related to my field of occupation).
Coming from an Accounting background, they may not pick me. If they pick me, I'll do a hell of advanced maths courses.
I can't cope with Discrete mathematics, Linear algebra, Calculus I, Calculus II, etc.
If I manage to cope and I get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa, I'll still face the lottery of 85k slots and overwhelming applicants. I can't spend that money and come back to Nigeria again.

Please advise me, what should I do?
I'm considering Canada but I don't know if she is better.
Your only options are:

1.) Nursing
2.) High level programming skill with specialty in backend, deveops, cybersecurity with high level skill.

Forget anything finance

Focus on finance. Go with your internship and entry level role and shatter every KPI!

Finance is big EVERYWHERE. If you can demonstrate your competence and have a track record of success in investment banking, you'll NOT have too much problem with getting a foreign employer.

Everybody wants MORE money. If you can make it happen, you'll DEFINITELY get sponsorships.

Unless you want to build products or SAAS that solves problems, FORGET tech in the US. A lot of people in the US already have CS Degrees and they are competing for the same jobs.

Plus, several tech companies have been laying off workers like a rocket shedding its expended booster.

Focus on the one where the foundation is already laid and blow up every hurdle.

Focus on the one where the foundation is already laid and blow up every hurdle.

Go and study medical courses, write the exams from Nigeria/Africa and start looking for sponsorship jobs on LinkedIn. H1B visa is assured.

Whichever route you choose, get at least five years work experience in Nigeria, then apply for NIW, as study route to the US doesn't guarantee you a legal stay. NIW is definitive process, while H1B is lottery based, aka tumbo-tumbo.

Regarding professions, both finance or accounting (there's a dearth of qualified accountants in the US) and tech are good. But regarding the former, you need to do your CPA. For the latter, you need to be very good to beat the competition. The competition for jobs isn't even the problem in the US, but getting an authorised visa to work. Studying in the US doesn't guarantee you thar authorisation.

In summary, NIW over study visa.

Bruh

If you have these skills and you claim you make zero dollar while you’re in Nigeria, you would make zero dollar anywhere in the world also, that’s just the harsh truth. Nigeria is not made for anyone, it’s up to you to make Nigeria a “place” for you

I’m not a motivational speaker, fvck it, but you’ve got to learn how to put yourself out there, how to position and sell yourself. A Wordpress developer that knows how to sell himself and find high paying Wordpress gig would make more money than a software engineer guru submitting basic applications randomly to every position he comes across.

You’ve got a good skill, if what you wrote up there is true
Restrategize, change your approach.
All the best!

You can be abroad and be sending money to Nigeria for investment.

However, I prefer other aspects of finance that isn't accounting. Regardless, there are a lot of them in US. Getting sponsorship is the main hurdle.
