Please,of what economic value is this pilgrimage is to Nigeria? I'm curious, and I wanna know.
No value to us at all the problem is that some big men in Abuja and state will still go with two or more wives and childern in government money

You wont see Falana taking such states to court demanding such should payment should be stopped.

Why do govt - both states and fg - keep using our hard earned savings to send people to pilgrimage.

Is Nigeria no more a secular state?
is falana behind your problem.. If he didn't take them to court you can take government yo court for this cause

God, for my next life I no wan come Nigeria again

It's so disheartening! In a nutshell both federal and state Governments in Nigeria spent #100 Billion naira every year to subsidize pilgrimage in the midst of hunger, poverty and underdevelopment. Why don't we create our own cultural, tourism and religious centers or villages across the 774 LGAs to attract visitors from the world over? This #100 billion will be enough. Each local Govt will have at least #120m every year to maintain and promote our culture and tradition and attract tourism income local and foreign. Why are we promoting the Arab tradition? Less than 2% of Israelites are Christians, why make the already rich Israel richer spending our scarce dollars on religious pilgrimage? When will people all over the world appreciate African tradition and culture? Woe unto this country!

Money missing road, lol.
The painful thing is that it is not their money

It is money accrued from sale of Niger Delta crude oil & gas via state monthly allocation & subvention

Waste of resources. And misplaced priority. If you use the amount to better the economy, people will work and finance their religious obligation without government involved. And that is what Hajj performance required.

This is not about obidients, it is about common sense that has been lacking in this country. To what benefit is the hajj to the dwindling Nigeria economy that it should warrant government subsidizing it? If those people cant afford the expenses then why cant they stay back? Why wasting money on an unproductive ventures?

cheesy

I don't know any Christians who have gone to Israel for 'pilgrimage'. It is islam that considers pilgrimage to Mecca to be a religious obligation.

I agree with your last point. The only group that comes out of all this with any credibility is the African Traditional Religion. Those who practise ATR don't need to travel anywhere - the religion is home grown and home based.

Waste of scarce resources to meet personal issue. If I am a governor, I will never spend a dime of government money on any religion jamboree like pilgrim. Anything short of education and health attached to religion my hand is off of it. But for religion pilgrim to go and see another man's land is no go area for me and my personal principle.
Re: Hajj: Five States With N383bn Debt Budget N9bn For Pilgrims by sidonlook: 3:09pm On Apr 07
These our leaders are taking us for granted and being very wasteful because they can always go to Abuja on monthly basis to collect money.
This is why they don't want us to practice true federalism where states have grater control of their resources.
Religion is a personal thing and the state need not spend our money to subsidise hadj.
Rubish.

For the first time you're defending ethical issue. Thankfully, if all of us withdrew our ardent support of wrong they do, I do hope they will seat up and prioritize governance. Kudos to you for treading good path of honour.

I said this because, to develop the hard the two state yet the have abundance of any natural resources you can think of that will make them compete favourably with any 'Class A State' in Nigeria but it is either they're embezzling or wasting money on a very useless project. Go to Nassarawa and see what Tank Almakura and Bello have turned tht state into. You will be shocked.

Packing scarce resources of a poor
African country 🇳🇬 to go and give a rich
country like Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦🇸🇦 in the
name of pilgrimage...

So, government is now assisting citizens
to go to heaven, but have created a hell of
poverty in their various States❗️❗️❗️

As usual, most of the money will end up
inside the deep pockets of corruption officials.
