This is ridículos. Government has no business sponsoring people to pilgramage. Religion is by choice on individual. The way northerners governments spends money on none useless things, it baffle me. Ramadan has come and gone. Where are the people they spend the billions on.

Nigeria, a country where half of the population is focused on hajj to Mecca while the other half is focused on living in Mars like Oyibo people now focus, such a country cannot make it at the long run. There must be some fortune temporarily tying politicians together that makes such a country continue to exist.

Five states; Kogi, Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Kano states, have subsidised Hajj fares for 10,260 intending pilgrims for the 2024 exercise, with a combined sum of N9,120,997,990 billion.

With oil money from the Niger delta region.
Weep for those people from the coastal areas who begged Hassan Katsina, the former gov of the old Northern region to beg Yakubu Gowon to carve out the coastal area from Biafra. The rest is history of environmental degradation and exploitation of the Niger delta region.

God have Mercy.
Who do us this thing.
Instead of subsidizing
Good, Electricity, fuel, Education, Fertilizer they're subsidizing tourism that should be a personal thing.

This state-sponsored nonsense needs to stop.

Religion is not a state matter, it's a personal choice.

If you can't afford to go on pilgrimage then shelve it.

I remembered when Okonjo Iweala lectured some of our senators abd house if reos on prudent financial dealing during the time of Jonathan.

Why sponsor people to hajj if they don't have the money? Many governors see that position as the only avenue to steal including the people at the presidency.

A nation that isn't financially sufficient yet spend money recklessly...no wonder the country isn't making progress despites the huge sums of money being realised daily.

Spending more than u earn.

For a million years if people don't stop this, nation will divide and crumble. The northerners think there is free money somewhere.

As usual, the buhari syndrome continues - flea brained decisions taken without thinking - spending money with no means to repay or generate income to cover up the vacuum.
Can't blame the people however, it's the poor track record set over the years by morons like buhari and other fulani terrorists in power.
Directionless leaders with no clue as to what to do, how to do it or when to leave - grab power and enrich their cabal at the expense of millions of dying Masses.
When will it end? When we divide Nigeria - and the lazy northerners realize they have nothing.

It's what the people want.

If any governor takes the sane decision to stop the subsidies, he would be labelled satan. So, pay the subsidy

Nigerians will be the death of Nigeria.

All in all, government has no business paying for any form of pilgrimage. Whether to Jerusalem, Makkah and Madinah, or even to the little.temple down the road

What is the essence of cutting away fuel subsidy for all pms users that uses car, buses etc and you now turn back to subsidize plane travel to a pilgrimage site that has no economical bearing to the country.

There was a country.

Some being sponsored are going for prostitution o.
Ask those governors to budget just 2Billion for education (even Arabic education to get them employment in Saudi Arabia) they'd never.
They prefer to waste it annually.

If Governors down South decide to be stupid like them, they'd start shouting marginalization.
Your govs down south are useless, trust me. Palliatives, they wouldn't distribute, they would sit on it. Pilgrimages, they wouldn't sponsor or subsidies. Using thugs to collect multiple taxes, borrowing recklessly without tangible projects to show for it.

See how they were fighting just to wear hijab in private schools.
Unless you are not informed, there is no fight or struggle to wear hijabs in the north, be it public or private schools. It is only south west Muslims you can intimidate and persecute over the use of hijabs

You wont see Falana taking such states to court demanding such should payment should be stopped.

Why do govt - both states and fg - keep using our hard earned savings to send people to pilgrimage.

Is Nigeria no more a secular state?

Americans make this kind of complains too about their government. Theirs is why does their country spend so much on WAR FARE than on their basic human WELL FARE. When it comes to human amenities, their government is always hesitant but if it is about wars and weapons the American government are ready to spend money. grin
