When you have infinite funding from Softbank what do you expect. I don't think any Nigeria bank can stand besides them in terms of funding.
They have funding yes but it's not infinite.
It's not just about funding but doing the basic things right. You will use a Nigerian bank app for transaction and you will still be praying for nothing to go wrong, simple transactions became like rocket science coupled with multiple unethical charges.
Opay got the basics right that's it. 1st Bank, GTB, Zenith etc have enough funds to run proper banking services but the bottled it. Opay uses it's app and ussd for transactions without having branches all over but still offering better services than all these agbaya banks.

Bro thier services are top-notch and seamless.
Who still take Nigeria banks serious these days when opay is there.
I remember one day when my gt bank app almost made them to embarrass.

Very unpatriotic element sad

Opay remains undefeated.

All these mushroom banks like GTbank, Firstbank, Eco bank, etc shouting swallow their pride and emulate Opay.

Make opay open branches and pay out cash not using other Banks established assets to pay cash to it's customers.

I’m so scared of that name. 😢

And the explosion happens when people least expect it, with so much trust garnered…
I had a mistake transferring to a wrong account. (Instead of adding 8 at the suffix I pressed 9. Na so money take go. Of course I started calling numbers but they keep referring to an office that had no one in it. Luckily I called the number and the guy picked. Far away Ibadan but the guy was nice to me and told me he’ll send the money back, I told him to take 30k. At all at all na witch. Some people will never refund. Since then before I make a transfer you must have a designated bank with Nigerian base and office.

opay does not have a full commercial banking licence, hence there is a limit to the kind of banking services it can render.

By valuation, it means asset base, not funding.
Well, Opay is a private company and "asset base" can mean anything. One thing I've learnt with startups is that till they're acquired and another party has the opportunity to audit their financials, you take whatever they put out with a grain of salt. (Or a handful)
So, yeah, I believe SoftBank is what gives them there current credibility.

business minded? if you are a business person making loads of payment, you'd not even utter this balabu.
you think it's by employing people to wear suit and tie everywhere and offer poor digital services?

that shows the level of poor service delivery by our offline commercial banks. it is the advent of online banking that is making some of them buckle up, that is why many are secretly fighting opay by not allowing transfer to opay account.

Opay is low budget bank and cannot be in the class of Access and Zenith. Only the greedy dey use opay grin grin wetin be opay without fast interest, zero transfer and awuf airtime and data bonus.
Can you put your lifesaving on Opay?
your lifesaving should not be in any bank, it should be in an investment portfolio.

Nice how fast the transfers are, but this thread is no doubt just a creation from their marketing department.
do u know how much opay has raised from investors as a business, do u know the venture capitalists backing opay?

400 million dollars is more than what banks are required to raise in their new recapitulation by the central bank.

No wonder all these orthodox banks are beefing these online banking. Now they have refused to allow transfer of money from their banks to any online banks giving network as excuses.

I have no doubt, but it can't be the number one financial institution in Nigeria by ANY valuation.

You have to consider too that oPay is a private company and startup so they can move fast and break things. For a Nigerian public company the NSE and it's investors aren't so forgiving. They might not really have as much money as you may believe to play around.

I say infinite funding because if SoftBank puts in $1billion into oPay, even if you have the most clueless CEO, it'll still take you a long way. (They put in $16billion into WeWork and I believe that isn't even their largest investment.) So, yes, infinite funding because if SoftBank believes oPay can be profitable and they need more money, they'll do more funding rounds.

And so what. Who told you the top banks will have an issue with that.

Opay has almost zero assets not to talk about investments and securities. Forget it, there is no comparison. It can never be the top financial institution in Nigeria no matter how much they pay you to say so online.

facts don't lie oga 400 million in dollars of far more liquid capital than any bank in Nigeria has. and yes, since u mentioned it many of our banks are having problems raising the capital, that is y many are considering mergers.
