No matter what you say, 40 years of subsidy has been a failure.

When you put in price controls, wahala starts.

Let the free market do it's thing...
^^^
What I 'say' isn't important. Only the truth is.

No one doubts that subsidy has failed here...even though you have never, and I mean never, quantified the so called subsidy on local refining. You have always avoided that question - because you don't have an answer.

But the subsidy on PMS imports will be removed eventually and your theory about 'free' markets in Nigeria will be tested in full view then. The whole point of free markets is that they bring prices down, non? You said so yourself.

What am I even saying? grin You are already planning your escape route with your comments about how we may (or may not) get 'cheap' fuel. (whatever the hell that means). undecided

There are free markets...and then there's crony capitalism. They are not the same thing.

Ol boy subsidy is not the reason why you dont have working refineries. Trillions upon trillions have been allocated for that over the years. The reason you dont have working refineries is corruption.

And you are wrong there are and there have been consumption subsidies even in capitalist countries. Go research it.
And the fact that trillions have been allocated for repairs of refineries is a sign of the massive corruption that exist under subsidy. No profit, no scruples.

Whereas if they were to be run free of subsidy and at a profit, there won't be any theft. Because the theft would sabotage the profit making.

Plus many capitalist countries that run consumption subsides do so at the cost of taxing most of their people. At rates that would incite riots here if implemented in Nigeria.

And they don't do so on petroleum. Infact they let the petrol companies set their prices and collect tax from them on top self.

And once again, Ghana and Niger have no subsides and working refineries. As do many other countries

Either way, subsidy has to go. Nothing like cheap fuel. Unless you want to tax every Nigerian heavily to pay for it.

Reality is not as we love it

I beg to disagree. We must agree to disagree. Your first line alone is so illogical. I dont have the strength to go back and forth with you. Suffice to say that if your theory is right, the removal of subsidies should end our corruption problems.

Good night.

It's not illogical to believe that things must be sold at a profit

Sadly things cost money, even refining crude into petrol and transporting it.

Subsides messes that up..as seen in Nigeria and Venezuela ( where fuel.costs 40.naira equivalent)

Gut nite

Indeed.

You have been on this subsidy issue for a long, long time. But an economy doesn't exist in one dimension. You know that.

You have never (and I mean never) said anything here about Nigeria's anti-trust commission and the role it should play in protecting consumers from anti-competitive practices by companies. This is what I mean when I say that there will be zero progress in any country unless it builds strong institutions. You think subsidy removal will achieve much if producers form a cartel and/or they collude to set prices? You think subsidy removal will count for anything if a sector the entire economy runs on - is dominated by a monopoly? huh

You will learn.

so why are you scared this coward, if your candidate was doing well. Would you have been worried.

It just tells, how stupid you all are supporting a druggie. If tinubu was actually performing, would you have been concerned about anything P.O was doing to gain audience for 2027 election.

Bunch of illiterates, instead of promoting your
candidate achievements so far, you are attacking P.O,

Obviously your candidate has nothing to show for it. Even the so called northerners that helped him win through the back door have all lost interest in him.

I hope tinubu smells 2nd term grin. It will be a shame if he gets kicked out by the north. grin

Lol, because government wasted billions selling fuel to them cheap

Meanwhile, no one wanted to refine or invest in refining. When you refine fuel at one price and government tells you to sell at a loss and then pays a subsidy that don't cover the loss

And when the cost of refining goes up and thus subsidy costs, at the end, government starts going into debt to pay for the subsidy

A large amount of debt.

There is nothing like cheap fuel. Something is lost when fuel is made cheap. We lost 4 refineries.as.a result.

You don't help the poor with price controls. Ask the USSR. And Venezuela.

cheesy

And the APC Jokes will come and say ...HE IS NOT PAYING SUBSIDY.

There has been a subsidy since October last year, otherwise fuel would have been costing N1000 or more. The government wants to stay in power, which is why they keep the subsidy.

The funny thing is there are people who oppose tinubu, blast him for wasting money on subsidy, and lying about it, and then turn around to support the same subsidy.

If the subsidy had gone in 1993, by now we would have had more than six working refineries, and a ton of exports of petrochemicals. But Nigerians WANT CHEAP THINGS.
In any policy there will always be room for self adjustment. There's no way the government would have allowed such a sensitive product to the swings of the open market.

In principle fuel subsidy is gone but the government has allowed self adjusting mechanisms. This means that if the exchange rate adjusts then the government adjusts it from the subsidy and if the refinaries start
production then the price will be adjusted from the price of crude sold to them.

There will be no major adjustment of the open market price of the product.

Elrufai is late to the dinner table. Who cares if there is subsidy? Obedients and Atikulators were crying that the time for the subsidy removal was wrong anyway so who cares? It now occurs to El Rufai that the Government seems to be getting few things right and the economy will improve, thus, his cheap jab at the Government for paying subsidy. Na today day break?
A word of advice for Elrufai. I expect you to form an unholy alliance with the obedience and their yes daddy principal plus the Dubai landlord immediately in opposition to the Tinubu Government. I want to really check something. You have seen the handwriting on the wall and nobody is hiding it. This is truly Emilokan Government with the mandate to transform the nation. This is the Government of omoluabis and other patriotic Nigerians who wish the country well. I want to tell you one secret Mr Elrufai including the unfriendly friends of Nigeria and the emergency lovers of Nigeria. We the Yorubas above the age of 40 years knows that this will be the only Government headed by a Yoruba we will witness in our lifetime and we are glad Tinubu gave us enough Representative opportunities in this Government. We can beat our chest that if Tinubu fails, the whole Yoruba nation fail. We do not expect another Yoruba led Government until 2055 except their is military intervention or a return to regional Government which is unlikely .That's why all Yoruba technocrats, industrialists, Traditional leaders, Religious leaders, those in the diaspora, entertainers and all of us must join hands together to deploy everything we've got to make this project work. I'm sure friends of the Yorubas across the nation will support us while our sworn enemies will wish we fall. There's a lot at stake. Elrufai is fighting a battle bigger than himself. The only alternative to a united and prosperous Nigeria is a broken or fragmented one and for your information, we are equally prepared for that if that is what it takes. You will be surprised.

Obviously as a result of Naira depreciation. If government did not restart the policy we would have been paying close to N1,000 per litre for petrol.

However, now that the Naira is gaining value we expect the story to change.
