Stress can't be qualified..only thing an employee enjoys as a reward for his stress and time is salary . Even the Bible stated it .
If u no want stress , sleep at home . Then u will know what stress actually means grin
Meerahbel:
No, I mean the stress you go through on a daily basis from home to office, can you place a cost as in a figure e.g N30,000 or N50,000

I didn't stay up to a month.
After staying Idle at hone for a while, i got this job at an upscale restaurant in Uyo. The job description was for that of a Manager/Assistant, the pay was 40k, and after calculating the transportation cost from my bat cave to work, it was worth it, I was told we would be on shifts between 8am - 3pm, 3pm-10pm, Mondays - Sundays. Well, i was tired of being Idle, might as well just work myself to stupor, i got the job. Brothers and Sisters, ladies and gentlemen, after a week, the shifts didn't start and i was working from 8am - whatever time the guests leave, most times I'd get home by 1am lipsrsealed lipsrsealed. I took it up to the owner and head chef, she said it would be sorted out as soon as she got one more person to add yo the workforce. Omor, a week passed again and still no one came, plus the working environment was always teased when the owner was around. She's impatient, gets angry easily. That was my concern as every job had it's yunno... Few days to when the bubble bursted, I was doing my usual morning routine of stock taking as it was part of my job as the Assistant manager, I got talking with the kitchen staff, and I was told she severely hit one of the girls the day before and she got injured, at first, i thought it was a joke till the girl herself showed me, i was shocked and proceeded to ask if she had always been that way, they said "Yes oooo, infact before you resumed, one girl left because she was constantly receiving beatings from the boss" I laughed sha, cos it all seemed like a joke, till it happened right before my eyes. Guests arrived after booking for dinner, and at that point the food wasn't ready due to the fact that the boss didn't release money in time for things to be bought, and when the money came, it was almost time for dinner. Guests arrive, Boom!!, generating set went off, Ahan! grin grin, walahi i became confused, without electricity, the kitchen couldn't function. I tried to be calm as the head huncho at the time, but i couldn't seem to now wha happened. At this time, some of the guests were already eating, while some were waiting. I had no option than to call the boss to inform her bout the situation (wrong move as all hell broke loose). When she arrived, she didn't speak to me, not one word to me, the generating set came back on, but at this time, the guests who were yet to get their meal were already murmuring, but a good number of people were already getting their meals. I went into the diner to try to pacify the guests as the food would soon be out, as i was doing so, i heard noise outside, didn't know where it was coming from, but i knew something was wrong. I stepped into the kitchen to see madness. One of the girls who was preparing a meal was pinned to the wall by her throat while holding a spatula as she was preparing semo, and thus semi was on the gas, which was still on. There was pepper all over the floor, the manager (a lady) was her knees begging for her life, the boss's kids were crying and begging her to stop and calm down. It's was chaos in that kitchen. Unfortunately the boss got wind of the fact that some guests had not been served and she exploded! She held the girl by her throat, pinned her to the wall yelling, i came in just in time to release her grip. I begged sha grin grin. No be small thing that day, she left the girl, got hold of the second girl, began to hit that one, i screamed and at that point she faced me, omor grin grin, she held me by my collar saying "you'll kill me" "you want to ruin my business" all i kept saying was "I'm sorry ma" omor, she no gree o. As i kept begging, she was attacking everyone in the kitchen. I stood up from the floor in anger, went back into the diner, dropped the organization's phone, picked up my bag, phones and chargers and left. I have worked as a data entry officer at a prominent mall in Uyo for 4 years, never have i seen anything like that before. Prior to that day, since i got there it's been from one level of anger to the other. The dissatisfaction, the anger, the impatience. No matter what we did, it wasn't enough. But she's a nice lady though, but naaaaa.

She is NOT a nice lady. That is an extremely toxic work environment. Physical violence is a nono. One day she will kill someone.

I have my peace
I can't not come and run mad in Lagos.

5:00am eyes don open, 600am you don road

5:00-6:00pm you close from work, 7:00pm-8:00pm inside bus you eyes dey blink, 10:00pm you finally reach house dey think of wetin you go chop.

Before you finally eat 11:00pm don nak.
12:00-1:00pm sleep don come,, you finally sleep by 1:00am.

4am you don wake again again. Hell no, I collected the salary and call it quit.

That's the pattern especially if you live in mainland ND works in Island. The most annoying is that some employers will still get mind owe such workers salary despite the stress

I thought I read wrong. How do you type all that and say she is nice? This is how they end up with toxic partners and get stabbed.

So I joined a company recently based on referral…I negotiated 500k as a senior project engineer tasked with helping them solve some problems. First red flag, the engineers I met on site has the highest pay of 200k. The workers were poorly remunerated, carpenters and helpers that I usually pay 7k and 4k respectively were being paid 3.5k and 2.5k . The work time was 8am - 6pm daily with an hour break, then Saturdays 8am-4pm. These guys could not provide me with safety site wears in 10days. The project manager has no experience on road or structures and could not even organize site work using all known tools. No role delegation, no task check ,milestones or team meetings. It was unbearable with how unprofessional they were working . But they have the edge in Nigeria because they are Lebanese who has the means to get contracts. I forgot to say they could not even issue an employment letter before I resumed till I left. The last straw was these dudes forcing their workers to work through Easter break with no incentives…I told them clearly I won’t work during such holiday without a special agreement. Took my pay for the number of days and left….oh,I forget how embarrassing I look when these guys has meetings with the client/key stakeholders. Our representatives were like novice and there I will just sit feeling ashamed. Terrible experience.

Fact!!!
santaclaws:

There are jobs that don't require you to work like a donkey or travel a far distance daily and that was the guy's point.

Some Nigerians have normalised suffering to the point where you see anyone with a contrary mindset as being lazy or unserious.

Why not quit?

They can't quit until they get another. How will they pay bills?

Although for me, I will rather quit & develop myself. But, that's the fate of many workers.

Are you learning and developing skills in your current job? If yes, I would advice you persevere. There are different seasons in life, including the time to bear difficulties for the sake of the greater good in terms of future prospects.
I'm not. In fact, I don't see how relevant it's to my dreams or career. Being here can kill one's potential. I've decided already. And by God's grace, I will be making my intention known by next week.

And I can't work for a Nigerian owned company, Nigerians are too greedy, selfish and tribal.

Most nigerians are just wasting their lives, and at the end of the whole hustle, they can't even buy a house in top areas

Is it every hardworking American that can afford to buy a house in a top area in the United States?!
