The Ebonyi government has announced plans to establish an airline in the state, following significant progress in the ongoing development of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Abakiliki.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, during a recent inspection tour of the airport.

Dr Ngozi Obichukwu revealed that the state government intends to enter the airline business once the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport becomes fully operational.

The airport, which is currently undergoing asphalting of the runway, is expected to be fully functional by August.

The commissioner expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts of Governor Francis Nwifuru, former Governor David Umahi, and the engineering team, saying: “If you do not blow your trumpet, another person will blow it wrongly. We are here as a team to tell you what our dear governor is doing on the runway of the Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo Airport.

“Many have been asking questions, are we good to go? Are we able to deliver the road by May as we promised? With your eyes and your senses, you people have seen what we have done and the extent we have gone.

“Before the asphalting, we have started witnessing the coming in of flights, and you know, as I have said before, it is both human and cargo airport. We are good to go in terms of exporting our food. Ebonyi State is good with production. We can export our rice, our garri , and even our salt. We will package it in an acceptable way and package it out.

“We are at the centre of attraction as far as the South East is concerned. Those of them that are coming from Abia, Enugu, Anambra, and even part of Cross River will be landing here. Those of them that are travelling from outside will be landing here. It will not only be a beehive of activities, but an economic hub of the South East because many people will benefit from here.”

Misplaced priority. angry

The billions should go into investing in education, where they set up vocational institutes in every local government in the state, where their young ones would be trained in where their interest lies such as plumbing, electricals, carpentry, culinary studies, diesel engine maintenance, roofing, tiling etc for about 2 years with stipends given to them monthly instead of exporting thousands of their young ones every year to different cities and towns in Nigeria to go and hawk handkerchief, phone charger, gala and the rest of them while when you visit many construction sites in the South East both in the rural and urban areas, there are a lot of Togolese and Beninese artisans working on sites, angry

They already have an advantage when it comes to rice production, getting their rice farmers hand held harvesters, locally fabricated threshers and winnowers, de-stoners etc would reduce cost of production and produce more rice!

Human capital development is what Ebonyi state is in dire need of, not an airline nor the white elephant of a project called airport, Umahi built!

This governor left his burning house to start chasing rats.

In this hard times, you demolished people's businesses and houses just to prove what exactly?
If you idiots knew how difficult things are in this country, you will not dare add to the people's burden.

They should turn that airport into an amusement park and mall.
That airport is an elephant project and a misplaced priority.
I don't even support Abia state to have an airport for now.

So after some of their leaders including past governors complained bitterly that the airport was named after an Anambra man, they have decided to keep the beautiful name. By the way which passengers will fly to that airport when Enugu is closer to Abakaliki than the Ebonyi airport? Anambra now has more rice companies than Ebonyi because they left their area of comparative advantage to be chasing shadows.

Can you explain what you mean? Ebonyi Airways can move people from Ebonyi to Lagos, from Lagos to Abuja, from Abuja to PH from PH to Enugu, from Enugu to Kaduna etc

Have you checked out the purchasing power of Ebonyi residents? Is it their young men hawking on the streets and roads of Nigeria that will afford the flight tickets back home or returning to their hawking business. Imo, Enugu and Anambra with an airport and way ahead of Ebonyi, have not even dared owning an Airline.

Wat a delusional governor. Instead of focusing on education, health care, agriculture which the state is lacking it is airport and airline that is important

Instead of making rice pyramid and Nkalagu cement a reality in Ebonyi state, you are talking about airline that is not viable.

If you go to many rice mills in Ebonyi state, they burn their rice husks in the open air after dehulling when that same rice husk they waste away can generate electricity for their machines in the mills instead of buying diesel to power their generators.

That same rice husk they waste can be processed into building materials, do some google search.

Governor would appoint many aides but nothing dey their heads.
