Study whatever you want to study, but please graduate early (not older than 26) with at least a 2.1. Once you're done with your final year project work, start practicing how to ace Job aptitude tests (ensure you master all the formats: Dragnets, Kenexia, Shl etc. questions are often repeated because it is difficult and expensive to create standardized tests regularly).

Moreover, follow the above with solid personal development. Be broad minded; explore other avenues that are of interest to you and make money from there, but don't forget to create a business from what you
studied, or at least in the area where you have spent at least 5 years working.

Finally on this, you may not all agree but everything is time bound and God sanctioned. So, be patient and acknowledge God always.

All the above I have done and continue to do and I can tell that, though I studied Zoology, I have a thriving business in that area; in the industry where I have worked for morethan 10 years, I have also built a business in the area; because of my interest in IT, I have built a brand in the Information anf Cybersecurity space as well. Finally, I also spend time trading stocks (NSE &NYSE), crypto trading and I invest in FGN Bonds and other foreign Money Market instruments.

If I mention them, you will think I'm going haywire but I'm somewhat correct cool

The courses are...

Medicine and Surgery

Pharmacy

Law

Engineering (especially Mechanical)

Computer Science

Note: the question said in Nigeria

And some others that I can't remember now. Those courses eh, you will think after graduation, money will be flowing because to many studying those course they think they are always sought after grin, the labour market is entirely a different story especially here in Nigeria, without connection or enough capital to start up for yourself, you will just be seeing yourself jumping from one office to the other looking for the firm or company that will at least top even 2k to your current salary so that you will move grin 😂
I dont know about others but you see those medical courses. You can never regret studying them.

Mindlog:

Na ignorance.

Problem is most Nigerian students who are studying Psychology, is more of wetin man for do, it was never their first choice because of Jamb score and fear of staying at home, one more year.

Hence many would graduate and begin to ask the dumb question of what they can do with their degree certificate because they only went through the montions of lectures, copy and paste, cramming etc, never internalized nor stretched their minds

For those serious Psychology graduates in Nigeria, they are many opportunities for them if they are smart. For example, with their knowledge of how the human mind works, they can do some online certifications in memory training to become a memory training coach. We have so many Nigerian parents worried that their children are struggling with remembering what they are taught in school......that is where a memory trainer comes in, with the skills learnt he/she can twice a week offer online video sessions with such young ones and help them redirect how they learn, to become better in understanding and remembering what has been taught....this is evidence based.

Shebi so many of our young ones are comfortably doing drugs, are becoming alcoholics, doing crazy things on social media...in the coming years many rehabilitation centres will be springing up as it is now and we need those who are skilled in mental health as workers.

They should hone their skills in therapy, Nigerians need professionals not social media influencers who claim to be therapists.

My background in Psychology made me a Neurodevelopmental Assessment Practitioner, I use laptops, softwares, cameras to assess young ones for ADHD (Attention Deficiency Hyperactive Disorder) a mix of Psychology and IT.

The field has so many pathways for those who truly have the passion.

Wow! Thank you for this. I know about some of this before anyway, I just wanted your opinion because I was shocked when I got that comment.

Anyway, I'm currently studying psychology in Unilag, in my 2nd year. What advice do you have for me?

Thank you.

All courses in the Faculty of Arts are totally useless in themselves, without exception.

That does not mean that a lucky or fortunate graduate of any of those courses cannot get a useful job. But as for the courses themselves, they are all Balablue. Especially Philosophy, Sociology, and Anthropology

Please don't let any of your siblings study any of the aforementioned courses in this era, they are better rewriting JAMB or learning digital skills than going to higher institution to waste time and resources, and if by mistake you allow them study any of these outdated generic courses, then prepare to support them with learning trade or starting a small scale business after graduation.

Some courses ought to be scraped in Nigeria. NUC/NBTE and Ministry of Education ought to revisit our tertiary education curriculum and remove a lot of outdated courses from there and replace them with current trends that can produce graduates that will solve current global challenges.

Absolutely all of our graduated medical students, na work dey chase them.
Make una dey play o. You think say na Yahoo Maduka do build tallest university/build for the whole Igboland?

The medical field is quite assuring from my experience: Pharmacy, MLS, Nursing are all lit and indispensable, with fair Nigerian-standard incomes and values. Physiotherapy, Radiology, and Dentistry are not excluded. I know less of Optometry.

NB:
This is an addendum posed to jambites with hopes for medicine but confused. Look, forget yahoo, crime, and all those ill-advices you come across, I swear the medical field is a field that pays! You will be associated with relevance. However, body go tell you, as you have a massive price to pay o—your mental and physical health will be put to test, especially if you use a federal university, which I strongly recommend. Inadequate social life, down times, weak background... Due to its rigour, many people withdraw, but many more scaled through and graduated and are close to fulfillment in life. If you have affinity for studying, follow through, your life is paved.

In conclusion, if you can wield a strong coping mechanism, you're seriously fit for a medical school, and your future is satisfactorily secured. Shalom.

Reading this I could picture wat I passed through in one of the first 3 medical schools in the country and I am forever grateful I took that step..wasn't easy.

The only lucrative course to study here in Nigeria is medicine and pharmacy. Nurses aren't well paid. Radiography, med rehab and medlab are useless because private firms mostly hire medical doctor who can do the work of radiographers and med lab. There is no private firm to employ you for med rehab and the government firm would only employ you if you can buy the slot. I have a 30 years friend of mine that's it's currently in first year medicine now after graduating from Biochemistry last 10 years ago.

Botany is not as bad as most people think. Though in Nigeria, one might not know how to navigate his/her career as a graduate of this great course.

I can confidently say it’s a big deal on the international scale. Plant ecologists play significant roles towards alleviating the imminent negative impacts of several current global concerns such as climate change, sustainability, food security and water shortage.

However, acquiring digital skills would always be my advice to everyone regardless the course of study.

It's one of the so-called useless courses in Nigeria.
I have many relatives and friends that studied it, and till today, none has any job.
Some of us are still sending money to them almost 10yrs after their graduations
I won't advise anyone i know to go into it in Nigeria, unless he has what it takes to travel out immediately upon graduation.

No course is useless really though some are no more relevant for professional pursuit

You can read engineering and be a Bank Executive Director in this country, all you just need to do is start from somewhere and add relevant skills and qualifications to your degree in line of your field of experience.

secondly, if you are good in Sales and Relationship Management, there are opportunities in this country. Irrespective what you read, you can excel in these lines of experience in Nigeria
