I wonder how people drown in swimming pool, was he swimming alone? Who allowed him to swim? Nobody to rescue him?

Seriously I don't understand how people die in swimming pool.

There are unfortunate times at pool.

1. Life guards (if the pool has any) can often times become negligent for brief moments.

2. There are rare times where you might meet the pool empty and you'd have the pool to yourself.

3. There might be other people at the pool who aren't good swimmers themselves and stupidity pushes a victim to go jump in the deep end.

It could be anything

While hustling , pay good attention to your kids . Pools should always have lifeguards or employ someone who who can swim to oversee the pool .

Lastly the lawyer and that DPO get collabo . When a lawyer starts praising the DPO , know that padi padi arrangement don happen .

What's even worse was that
1. The police didn't bother to leave the station to investigate.

2. The police were telling her to do an affidavit swearing that she will not pursue a case against the hotel.

You still have to blame the management. It's not every product that you can sell to minor. Why would you take money from an unsupervised kid to enter into a pool?
You are right. However, the mgt may not know that he is an underage.

Who do you think induced the DPO to push for that ? The lawyer praising him

The mother goofed there . She should have FIRST rushed the child to the hospital . The hotel should also have done something.

I'm pretty sure the boy paid no dime....the boy could be well known there due to they share same fence or the mother's shop could even been in the hotel...I'm sure the boy can't afford to pay for the swimming...they both have fault cos the hotel should have a lifeguards but the boy wanted to cut corners to swim, I'm sure if he paid he could be given one lifeguard,it's negligence of the mgt..anyways RIP to the boy

How do they allow a minor access the facilities in a hotel?

That's the question!

For a a hotel to have a swimming pool, it means it's not like a small place or like all those motels.

Stop with all these kind of reasoning. The statement of the lawyer trying to defend the hotel is in the writeup. If the boy wasn't a paying customer, the lawyer would have gladly stated it. Rather the Lawyer's argument was the the hotel has floaters and life jacket for it's customers which the customer (the boy) did not use. 'you are pretty sure the boy paid no dime' which hotel will allow someone swim for free? When it's time for the pool attendant to make account to the manager he will write that some people swam for free right? Because I have worked in a hotel before and your manager or supervisor simply counts the number of people in and out of the pool to determine how much you should account for at the end of the day.

Talking about affording to pay for swimming. How much is 500-1k that the boy cannot afford? The same money that children that age have been spending in game house since the early 2000s. Are we in the new world where children don't take their parent's money to go and spend on mundane things?

Please try no dey quote me with this kind reasoning.

Carelessness or ineptitude will always be the bane of Nigerians.
Why should an eleven year old be allowed to be around a swimming pool, unguarded even by family members?
And the staff working in the building either saw the child being dangerously close to the water, and " minded their business" as idiots online would always tout,or being not close, still heard the boy crying while drowning and "minded their business".
And the family members as stupid as they were left him around a body of water, unguarded to go and do God knows what.
About the "mind your business" attitude of Nigerians towards situation of life and death.
Many of us do that and later when we encounter terrible problems and get ignored while calling for help; many of us go online to rant and rave about Nigerians being insensitive.
But we forget that we have turned blind eye to someone else's problem before and we are reaping the rewards.
The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs 21:13"If you refuse to listen to the cry of the helpless, your own cry for help will not be heard.

Re: 11-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Ogun Hotel Swimming Pool by tuzle(m): 7:53am On May 02
The hotel is at fault here. U don't collect money from a 12 year old boy and just allow him go swimming like that. The lawyer said he didn't use the protective gear provided, how the hell does an underage person decided for the hotel. The hotel should be sued because they are just after money and nothing else.

Something is fishy. Why would the police insist that the mother should depose to an affidavit to withdraw the case. The Hotel had payed them off, let legal aid council come to her aid if she cannot afford a lawyer.

How? That hotel should not just be locked up but seized permanently and conlensate the family wholesomely... There is nothing to read here.. You can't run a hotel that has swimming pool without safety measures for learners and customers generally...

The hotel is liable in this case. Why would you allow a minor that is not supervised by an adult into your pool area? Imagine their lawyer saying the boys rejected life jackets:

1. That statement confirms the hotel collected money and granted the minors unsupervised into the pool area.

2. In furtherance of the negligence of the hotel, they refused to deny access despite lack of adherence to safety regulations at the pool.

The woman should contact Falana or any of these popular lawyers and sue the hotel. In fact the police should have taken up a case of criminal negligence and manslaughter or culpable homicide against the Hotel Manager that allowed the kids to swim.
Re: 11-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Ogun Hotel Swimming Pool by Originalsly: 8:45am On May 02
The hotel is liable because they collected money for him to enter the pool. It was then their duty to have a lifeguard. Maybe the pool attendant was the one with that responsibility but focused on collecting fees..... the reason he is still held. The parent is not blameless .... behaving as if she and her ehmmm ..... eleven year old teenager were guests at the hotel Lack of home training is the root cause.
Re: 11-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Ogun Hotel Swimming Pool by Jenonye(f): 8:53am On May 02
Why is nobody talking about how a simple CPR could have saved the life of this boy. He was brought out of the pool by who? The pool attendant? The hotel is supposed to have a life guard or pool attendant that is trained to perform CPR on anyone who drowns. This case is a juicy one. That hotel should pay through their nose. Infact CPR SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN PRIMARY and SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY FOR ALL. We as adults should also learn it. It’s a life skill.

Didn't you read where they said he refused. What about the other friends?

Why didn't they drown? Probably, they used the safety measures.

Let's always be truthful and real and not carried by emotions.

Firstly, he left his sister, secondly, he didn't use the facilities before entering the pool. ( That kind of show the type of boy he was)

I wonder why he left his sister for the pool.

Opeifa reported that her 12-year-old son, Iremide Opeifa, was rushed to the hospital after drowning while swimming with friends at the Grand Park Hotel, Ota. Sadly, he was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The only mistake here is that he wasn't rushed to the hospital on time. And it seems there was an hospital beside the police station. What's wrong with people? Why not save life first before other things?

You must be slow. How else do you expect a child to behave? Kids will dare to do things not knowing the dangers involved. Your type will allow a child fall off a building cos you are sure he stupid to think he could fly. If Nigeria has 50k more of your type then the country is in trouble.
