Let me speak from my experience as a practitioner and a professional in this field
I said in an earlier thread that all Ocean Coastline in Nigeria belong to the Federal Government and they are the only entity that can issue titles in that regards,I am not capping but I was taught this in my University Undergrads days
I have challenged Landmark to seek legal redress because this is a very huge investment and we need to settle this matter of who really owns the Ocean Coastline once and for all

I also challenged Landmark to publish his documents to the general public and also for everyone involved to openly produce all certified drawings and plans of both the old abd new coastal

[/color is it that you don't want to understand things or you are just daft.. What do you think are Nigerians priorities for now? I pity you

Guys kindly look at the picture below, some people said government need to destroy all the properties in the red lines to build way for the coastal high way, while properties on the yellow line need to be left because Landmark beach resort is situated there

Now think for yourself

which of the lines below in the picture is likely to create more harm and damage, the red or yellow

You can see how the red lines are all occupied by buildings and businesses while the buildings in the yellow lines are scanty

Lets be factual, it is not as if land mark building was destroyed. The beach front was destroyed to create way for a government project that will ease travelling for everyone and those living in the axis.

Coastal shorelines are owned by the federal government, we all know that.

some section of the country want government to destroy all those properties and businesses on the red axis and leave the yellow one because an igbo man own a property there.

you can clearly see the amount of damage that will be done if government destroy the properties and businesses on the red axis compared to the yellow axis

It's actually sad and pathetic that a lot of people defending this project (and even a large number opposed to it) are incapable of seeing the bigger picture. The disaster that this project represents has absolutely nothing to do with Landmark; it's quite sad how everyone keeps talking of Landmark! Landmark! Landmark!; which happens to just be 1 out of hundreds of massive economic assets that would be destroyed because of this 1 road that definitely would never be completed.

It's bad enough that political sentiments have hindered all chances of Nigerians ever having an objective discussion about the project, but now making it about Landmark and tribe further buries every chance of ever having meaningful debates.

Landmark aside, tribe aside and political sentiments aside, my take on the project is that it's an absolutely misplaced priority! The urgency to execute the project without wide consultations also stinks of sinister motives (smells like a conduit pipe to steal massive funds).

Yes Nigeria needs roads and the coastal road sounds like a brilliant idea, but when economic factors and current realities are sincerely considered, a brand new coastal road should definitely not be a priority at a time when literally all existing trunk roads are in disrepair.

The basic dualisation of an already existing east-west road hasn't been completed after 25 years, Lagos-Benin road is still in a sorry state, Benin-Auchi-Okene-Lokoja road dualisation is still very far from completion and a death trap even after 20 years, the list is endless; but someone thinks it's a wise decision to start building a brand new road from Lagos through the Niger Delta swamps up to Calabar?

In terms of scale and complexity, the coastal road is literally like constructing an almost 700 km long bridge through swamps and rivers. How exactly can Nigeria possibly finance such a project? or perhaps it would take another 30 - 50 years to complete?

Now let me debunk their lies

- 100yrs ago, entire place was land owned by the Oniru family.

- Over a century the beach was lost to the ocean till the erosion started threatening VI till early 2000s

- 2003- BAT engaged Hitech to build the “Wall of Lagos”, reclaim the land and build Eko Atlantic. Reached agreement with Oniru before project on ownership of the land to be reclaimed.

- 2007ish- the idea of the coastal road was birthed, to start from Eko Atlantic.

- 2007 Landmark bought property backing the “ocean” which is e basically land that based on plan will be reclaimed. With a clearly marked fence that ends just before the water that based on plan will be reclaimed.

- - 2017 ish Landmark went to his “backyard and created a football pitch” on a land that he didn’t buy and was collecting money.

- 2018ish- Landmark continued expanding on land that they didn’t buy, building shanties and charging money.

- 2019-20 Landmark grew bolder and was selling shops space on the beach to businesses. I have to emphasize, on the beach front that he did not buy.

- Around 2019/20 Oniru beach also opened up.
- Around 2021, LaCampagne also joined them.

- 2023- Lekki Deep seaport was completed. Opening up additional economic activity on the coastal line.

- 2023- BaT was elected, coastal Hitech revisited their old friend and proposed to start phase 1 that links Eko Atlantic to Deep Seaport

- 2024- project started, Road is supposed to pass through LandMark’s “backyard that they didn’t buy.

- FG gave notice to everyone including Onirus (that owned the land before it was lost to the sea) and LaCampagne.

- Everybody knew this day would come, so everybody Jejely vacated land that they know they did not buy. Landmark said lailai and started media rounds.

- 2024- Landmark claimed they have $200m investment on the beach.

- Umahi visited and conceded that rather than have 100m corridor, the one at his side will be 50m, and gave Landmark engineering tips to retain the tourism.

- Landmark said coastal road should pass in front of property, not the back. The front is 2 line a road, the coastal road is supposed to be 10 lanes. With 100m corridor. Landmark’s proposal will actually affect the land he bought, if accepted.

- Last weekend Umahi carried on as planned. Destroyed the shanties on the beach worth “$200m”.

It’s too long, but that’s the summary.

Oniru Family land was also taken but no one said anything, the Agenda now is that he was targeted because he’s an Igbo man 😂😂😂😂
As i.dey read am, I dey laff...Maybe they sold the beach to Landmark...

Opinion!
Those properties on Red line might have good and approved title document from government while the other line may not because it is close to costal shoreline.

Simple!

Read the national environmental coastal and marine area protection regulations of 2011 ( section 10a)

It says clearly that You can not construct a resort or beach front property within 200 meters in the sea shore.

Also you should not fence it in a way that the public wont have access to the beach.
