It might not be on par with the World Cup but I believe it is a very respectable tournament. Many greats, not just Messi played in it. Off the top, Marquez, Xavi, Eto, Ronaldinho, Zamorano, Pirlo etc. It is too huge to dismiss.
There is no FIFA World tournament that we don’t see greats players participating.

Na that indiscipline matter be the koko. Pesin wey go club the before match. Also remember how he was bounced from the 2004 AFCON squad for smuggling girls into team hotel after SE lost first group game against Morocco.

It was Cele Babayaro,Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Victor Agali that were sent home but funny they didn’t cared and showed no remorse

Just wondering...
Have we ever approached Madueke and he declined or we have never approached him before?

Aiyegbeni was never really committed to playing for us, people always mention the Angola game in Kano but have forgotten that the first leg in Angola was a disgrace, we played that game with just 13 players (I think), players like Yakubu and Jayjay failed to turn up for away games and friendly games always citing weak excuses.

Honestly the behavior of some of our players then. Same thing that Foden did that almost ended his England career.

Can't comprehend what you are saying? List the coaches you like and the ones you don't like. Then I can get your idea.
I don't like tiki taka. It has nothing to do with people. I'm talking system. I like Johanne Cryuff but I don't like tiki taka which he developed. I'm indifferent towards Guardiola.

Whatever style a coach adopts, let it sha not be tiki taka. Simple.

Okocha's own was almost unforgivable because he was captain and should have led by example.

Literally not saying anything.

Which coach do you like? Let us start from there to understand what you hate. Because when you talk Tiki Taka, it is mostly about playing a heavy possession style which most top coaches adopt.

Guardiola, Arteta, Ten Hag, Tuchel, Enrique, Ancelotti, Michel Sanchez, Xavi etc. All work towards dominating possession.

You can't say you hate Tiki Taka on one hand and say you like possession football. They are the same thing.

The only left back to have scored at an AFCON semi finals! Ben Iroha's goal against the Ivorians from Okocha's pass remains one of AFCON's greatest goal.
Similar only to Ikpeba's against Tunisia from Kanu's pass!

Ben Iroha all day!

Modern left back before "so-called" modern football!
Kog45:
I want us to give fair assessment to our judgments regarding the trio.

Ben Iroha was a solid member of Westerhoff era and did so well.He has below Europe career. He won Afcon and had two WC appearances. What could have been his best tournament was marred with injury and Mike Emenalo step in.He had 50 caps and a goal.

Celestine Babayaro remain the best talking of European career. He played for Anderlecht,Chelsea and Newcastle. He played in two WC and was a regular member of eagles in the late 90 to mid 2000 with Afcons appearances. But I will rate his super eagles career average 27 caps and a goal.

Taye Taiwo would have been the best Nigeria LB.He started well with Marseilles but his transfer to AC Milan ruined his progression and he never recovered from it.He played in a WC and had Afcon appearances. He had good eagles career with 54 caps and 8 goals.

My submission, based on Europe career I gave it to Celestine Babayaro…..On trophy I gave it to Ben Iroha cus he was part of eagles that was ranked 5th in the world…..Ranking Taye Taiwo the best eagles LB would bring debate but If he was part of 2013 Afcon team he would have been adjudged the best cuz having 54 caps with 8 goals showed how solid he was with eagles.

I hope to see emerging talent that will break Iroha,Babayaro and Taye records in eagles.

I prefer cele abeg. US 94 group were over hyped

The only problem Cele had was indiscipline if not he would hv lasted longer playing both for the national team and top leagues in Europe

After Cele I will even pick Taiwo ahead of Iroha

Celestine Babayaro was on another level. His technical and tactical play was brilliant. He was the first defender I watched Jockey. He was thrilling to watch. His marking was superb too.

This guy is a beast now. Adept at LCB and LB. Good in a four man defence and a three man defence. One of the best defensive players in world football today. Haba.

PS: Messi dealt with him at the WC shaa. But that is Messi-One of the GOATs. And Josko was younger then. He's matured his game even better since 2022.

If you keep in mind Gvardiol is 22 years now, you will understand how young he was when Messi schooled him. His growth has been tremendous.

Bundesliga's Team of the Season Star, Victor Boniface now on 20G/A (12⚽️ and 8🅰️) in 21 league games.

28G/A (19goals, 9 assists) in 31 games across all competitions. A Top 23/24 season overall for Victor "the dancing assasin" Boniface.

I know he was only 20 at the WC and already a starter for Croatia and Leipzig. The guy's growth has been phenomenal and he is a defensive monster. Complete package he is.
