Swimming instructor? Hmm no thanks

I have seen plus size people swim fantastically, so the fact that you are thick doesn't you won't easily float or swim. Haven't you soon plus size women who dance really well, far better that even skinny people? So don't let your body mass discourage you.

i have taught a few people to swim. Trust me being thick makes you more likely to float. so find a pool and an instructor(could be a friend)

My Youth service year, 2012-2013, was a 1hr 30mins speedboat ride from Swali market Bayelsa to the 7th community in Southern Ijaw inland waters.....

Heard the 10th community then was just Atlantic Ocean Islands and still there were Youth copers posted there...

All thanks to God that someone like me that don't know how to swim a cup of water was able to serve and go...

Even the life jackets, if one wears it wrongly, it will even aid in pulling one down lols...

Even if one wears it well, and floats on water, crayfish , and all those water animals can easily deal with your toes if you are not on shoes...

That doesn't mean one won't be swallowing small water as the waves comes, until one gets rescued

There was a day our fuel finished in the middle of the River abi semi sea, cheeeeeiiiiii , I almost fainted but we got a rescue speedboat after 30 mins of floating side by side by the waves of the water...

Before we left the town, we went to Jetty to swim , Omo , I just went to the shallow part, rushed and grabbed one of the jetty reinforced columns and was flabbing my legs up and down until when they said we are to go, they laughed at me , but here i am still alive. Even one guy that was claiming he has tested all the hotel swimming pools in PH then almost got drowned....lols

Please is not wisdom, it is not smartness, if you don't know how to swim, run away from any kind of water body....

Aunty, the thicker you are the eaiser for you to float. This is because u will displace a larger volume of water than the normal slim person. It's principle of floatation. Besides once u are in the water, Ur weight don't count any longer. What plays out is now density. That said, anyone can learn how to swim. It just takes practice and letting go of fear because fear will make u stiffened your muscles hence increasing your density.

Re: Avoid Water If You Cannot Swim by CaptainFM1: 1:00pm On May 07
It's best to just calm and stay afloat if you find yourself inside expanse of water such as the Atlantic or Pacific.

If the shore is not in sight, even the best Olympic swimmer will die attempting to swim such water.

When you stay put, you conserve energy to remain afloat for long and hopefully a boat may pass or rescue come to your aid.

The first rule of survival techniques when you're in the middle of the ocean is to stay calm and stay afloat especially if you're not wearing floatation aid. Any attempt to swim such water reduces your chances of survival.

How will you learn to swim if you avoid water?

You can learn to swim on dry ground, the op is high on something.

So person no go die again in peace abi?

If u like avoid water to the point that u stop drinking it from a cup, u go still die wen time come.

A friend told me a story of a man who dey told him not to go out on one particular day because he was to die by car accident. This man actually agreed and didn't go even outside. But u know what he still died by motor accident that same day inside his parlour. How did it happen?

If I have 25 Likes I will share how it happened. Nothing goes for nothing!!

I tried learning how to swim last Saturday and was having difficulty floating. I understand how to move my hands and legs but the floating aspect is the obstacle. I'm still looking for a good swimming instructor. Uyo specifically.

True. However, not everyone can float. Some people sink like stone in water. It will take constant movement of hands and feet to keep such people afloat.

Everyone floats on water regardless of their size. A cruise ship which weighs thousands of tons do the exact same thing.

The only reason you sink is fear. You are conscious of what has and can happen. Ever wondered why babies float?.

You've gotta conquer your fears, then learn how to breathe while swimming, and the right hand and leg movements to go forward.

That's it.

Easier said than done!

If it cannot be done, nothing can be done. As a seafarer, I've had causes to save people, one right in the middle of Indian Ocean, and another on the Atlantic.

First, they never attempted to swim away from their craft as the craft is their best known position when rescue come searching.

When a Mayday signal is sent from a casualty vessel, that signal is for the location of the sinking vessel and that's where rescuers will aim for.

If they had swum away from the casualty vessel they would make it difficult for help to get to them because rescue crafts will now take time to start searching everywhere for them.

Bear in mind that Helicopter won't do night operations and their operation is also limited to about 6hrs of fuel for its "to and fro" journey. While a ship may not pass close to your location in 2weeks, even months!

In one of the MOB cases I rescued, the man was in the water for 5days lying on top of his capsized dinghy. If he had attempted to swim, he would dissipate his energy and will finally get drowned. Where would he even swim to anyway?

That's why when doing survival techniques course/training emphasis is not on swimming but to stay alive for as long as possible. To even amaze you, swimming is not a requirement if you want to enroll in the Merchant Navy.. Note: I didn't say Military Navy!

I agree with you it's not easy, but that's where training comes in. I've been on a vessel that was badly hit by severe storm and high swells with the ship "rolling" to 40 degrees. We all knew if the worst happened, we won't go far from the parent ship even if we abandon the ship using lifeboat or liferafts. It comes with training and awareness.

I've been on a flight that lost completely one side of it's engine. Everybody in the flight were terrified and shouting prayers to heavens except me and the flight crew. The air hostesses were cool and calm and trying to coordinate people. Not that they don't see the danger, they just know how to handle the situation better because they were properly trained for it.

How many miles of an ocean do you think anybody can swim? Highest maybe 2N.miles (3704meters). That's why it's advisable to just stay in one place and be praying if you believe in the supernaturals.

It's not unheard of in the maritime world of casualty in the water for up to 2months and yet survived. That's why Survival techniques at sea is a complete course on its own.
