This nearly impossible, for centuries the Benin Kingdom has a clear cut succession plan. The next Oba is already known, aside this he plays a role in the administration. So it's very difficult to change.
The present governor is rumored to be behind all the problems the royal family os facing.

You have to keep in mind that royal families are different from "regular" families. For example, the blood brother that you played with as a boy in the past could turn out to be your assassin in a power tussle tomorrow. Privately, a lot of(probably most) kings would not wish their position on even their worst enemies, but they have no choice but to remain in their inherited duties because that was what they were bred for.
