A Driver hit and killed a female pedestrian along the Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra on Friday night, May 31, according to the state Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, told newsmen in Awka on Saturday, June 1, that the driver fled the scene after the incident.

Irelewuyi said that the likely cause of the accident was speeding.

He said that the crash involved an unidentified driver of a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with no registration number, en route to Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

“According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the vehicle, who was on speed, rammed into a pedestrian female adult and zoomed off.

“FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene and took the victim to Toronto Mortuary after the doctor confirmed her death,” he said.

While condoling with the family of the dead, Irelewuyi cautioned motorists on speeding, especially during the rainy season. He urged them to ensure they keep to specified speed limits.

I don't think Pedestrians bridge nor Street lights is at that Place. They die there everytime.
In Lagos, they arrest such people because there's Pedestrians bridge or you go to where there's street lights and wait for it to turn Red for the lanes to stop. But no! They are always in a hurry to Only God knows where.

You got it! It is always the Pedestrians fault, that's why most hit and run drivers run. Even if there's pedestrians bridge, they won't use it but prefer crossing the express. A 5 year old was killed recently.
