Greetings, I've been studying the structured query language for some couple of months extensively on W3school and also on sqlbolt which comes with both exercises and quiz.

I've been attempting to answer most of the exercises after studying and my proficiency based on the marks is impressive. I have a HP laptop windows 10, I've been trying to install MySQL relational database because most of the syntax I studied works well on it, but anytime the installation process gets to server configuration I'm always stocked there.

I've searched for videos on YouTube to follow their procedures when installing MySQL but it's been same challenge.

Has anyone experienced such challenges and how do you resolved the issues?

I'm done studying python and I'm quite proficient with pandas and NumPy library. My goal is to be a data analyst which I've already done some data analytics projects on python. I want to do some data projects too using SQL afterwards enroll for Google certification perhaps after that God will favour me to get a good job, I don't want to waste so much time on Google certification course because it's quite expensive that's why I went for self learning using the aforementioned sites and some couple of YouTube videos.

Please If you have any solution kindly help me out with tips to resolved the issue. I really have to change my story this year. Looking forward to your kind response dear Nairalanders.

MariaDB is an in-place replacement for MySQL.

For MYSQL: dev(.)mysql(.)com/get/Downloads/MySQL-8.4/mysql-8.4.0-winx64.msi

Alternatively, you can can download XAMPP and start only the Mysql service.

If you still have issues, share screenshots of the error you are getting and folks here can advise

Search for his video on how to download and install SQL. That shud help

Very secure. I have gotten them directly from the respective websites. And with MariaDB and MySQL, their SQL syntax is exactly the same. MariaDB is a fork of MYSQL, which basically means that at some point in the past, a couple of developers took the MySQL source code and created MariaDB. Most of that was driven by Oracle's acquisition of MySQL AB (the company that was responsible for developing and maintaining MySQL)


For a data analyst, you should be ready to work with any SQL RDBMS. The differences in SQL syntax across them is minimal

Not very sure what the error you are facing is. I haven't used Mysql on Windows for donkey years so I may be a bit rusty. On Linux though, we just need to install it, enable it as a daemon/service and then run

 mysql_secure_installation

to "harden" the install. Unless you are looking to run on a port other than 3306, install should be pretty straight forward.

Pro Tip: I've been bloodied by several installs and have learned a hard lesson. There's no such thing as a "one-time install". Trust me, you while learning you will trash your current setup and want to start afresh. So my advice is always to document all your troubleshooting while trying to get it to work. When you have a known working solution, document the steps you did to get to that known solution. For me, on Linux, I have a whole directory of bash files that automate the install process for me.

Exactly what I've been experiencing, I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled. It's frustrating but I'll keep to your counsel.

have you tried using the terminal route instead. Also it is easier to debug when you share your screen with us.

I'll advice you to locate your control panel and uninstall it then re-download it again. Cos trying to troubleshoot it to detect where the problem is might be a Herculean task for you since you're still new to the program.

Are you still having issues? There are other possible solutions we can explore.

There's is the noinstall option where you download a zip file from mysql's website and configure it to work. Not conventional but it works.

Or if e too bad, use XAMPP zip version and run with only the MySQL server.

Why not just install SQL?

I can walk you through the installation process along with the installation of adventure works.

Just have up to 3GB and you're good to go.
