There is no doubt that teaching ESL particularly in Asia, can be highly rewarding. However, there is a pathway to follow, otherwise it could become a nightmare. Some people have been reaching out to me privately on how they can come to Vietnam to teach but I decided to create a thread about it, so a wider audience can read. I’m not saying that teaching in Vietnam or SE Asia does not have its own challenges. It does, but if you follow the right way, your chances of succeeding becomes very high. Unfortunately, lots of Nigerians often make mistakes in their journey to teach ESL in Asia and they end up frustrated. Here are the biggest mistakes Nigerians make while hoping to teach ESL in Asia. 1. They fail to prepare adequately; for you to teach ESL in Vietnam, you MUST be a graduate, have IELTS score of band 7 minimum, and have either TESOL, CELTA or TEFL certification. 2. They go through the wrong way; Nigerians often pay agents millions for Vietnamese visa that costs less $100. After spending their entire money on agents and flight ticket, they arrive in Vietnam and become stranded.

Instead of paying agents 2.6 million to secure you a visa that is worth less than $100. Use that money to enroll in a reputable TESOL institute in Vietnam. Undergo the training for one month, inclusive of one month accommodation in neat hotel and guaranteed job provision at the end of your training. This was exactly what I did and the institute I had my one month TESOL training also provided a good job placement for me at the end of my training. I must say that it’s challenging for Blacks, particularly Nigerians to get a good ESL job because lots of Whites are also coming in and they are mostly preferred before others like Filipinos, Blacks & Indians. This is why it is crucial that a Nigerian hoping to succeed in Vietnam must hand over the job aspect to reputable institutes. These institutes are highly respected in Vietnam and schools often accept teachers from them, regardless of their race or country of origin. |

Teaching ESL in Vietnam is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. You can easily be paid good salary, much higher than what the average people earn in that country. You will also be provided with free accommodation, free utilities and the country has a low cost of living. You will also have the opportunity to do business as a side hustle. That’s the only pathway to succeed in Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, China etc. anything else could lead to frustration and regrets. |

NaijaVietnamese:Nice one boss. Please what's the average pay per month? Thanks . |

OBTOREPA:The monthly pay varies but mostly ranges from $900 to $2000. There are some teachers that earn less probably because they lack some of the necessary qualifications and are teaching illegally. Native speakers from countries like Canada, UK, USA and Australia earn more on average than others like Filipinos, Africans, Indians and Pakistanis etc. Also, most schools would provide free accommodation and free utilities, or pay you some extra money to assist you with accommodation, if they don’t provide. |

MrNice04:I’m about to do a thread concerning traveling to Asia generally. The situation in Asia now is dire; from China to Vietnam, Philippines to India etc. Except you’re going to these countries to do business, teach or work independently then it’s better to abort mission now. Meanwhile, my brother, you can ask any question on the thread I gave you the link. |
