The way Muslims slaughter ram during Eid makes me wonder why the population of rams has not declined given that it is not a high breeding animal like pigs, a sheep pregnancy lasts for 9 months with mostly single birth and twins in few occasions.
Also note that each of the pilgrims must also slaughter a ram and that is about 1.8m rams for the pilgrims alone and because of that Saudi have shortage of rams and have to import from other countries.

People who buy it that expensively likely have more than that to spare. Some even buy to gift to friends and loved ones, and others do so for business purposes. After all, buyers go home with a product (ram) while sellers go home with the money. It's a law of commerce, a natural exchange.
