I’m driving a 2012 Honda Crosstour, after servicing it on the 25th of June this year with a Mobil 1 engine oil I bought for 48k, I thought I won’t be bothered with servicing for at least 6months or 10k kilometers whichever comes first.

But to my surprise, just after 1,067km and a bit more than a month, the oil change monitor shows on the cluster board the oil quality has dropped to 10%.

I bought the Mobil 1 engine oil from a Mobil station after assuring me it is genuine.


Is there anyone here using Honda crosstour? Do you experience this same issue using Mobil 1 engine oil?

Did they reset the oil change meter? To do it yourself,
Follow these steps

Step 1:
1. Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).

Step 2:
2. Press the SELECT/RESET button until the engine oil life indicator is displayed.

Step 3:
3. Press the SELECT/RESET button for more than 10 seconds. The engine oil life indicator and the maintenance code(s) will blink.

Step 4:
4. Press the SELECT/RESET button for more than 5 seconds. The maintenance items code(s) will will disappear, and the engine oil life will reset to 100.

Step 5:
5. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

Step 6:
6. DONE!!!

Yes I did reset it and it started counting from 100%

The recommended oil for crosstour is 0w 20. It is clearly written of the engine cap.

Pls can you send me a pic of the original with the yellow sticker if you have it?

When in Nigeria ,the recommendation you talked about do not apply .. remember that car was not built for our weather

using this, is the quickest way to shorten the lifespan of your engine's rings and cylinders. Stick with 0w20.....the manufacturer's of your engine aren't fo.ol.ish to have recommended the oil

Before anything is done,pls guage the oil on the dipstick...remove the dipstick,wipe and guage the oil. Attach the pics of the guaged oil here.lets see

again tmrw.if its still showing 10% oil left,kindly visit a rewire to clear all error codes.

Please pay no mind to the person curious who said car was not built for our weather... Is Nigeria hotter than the uae or some parts of the US?? If you have been using recommended oil before without issues.. It's most likely bought a fake one this time..

10% oul life left.
Seems the whole 4 litresof 5litres gallon u got from mobil.
90% of its contents are grease,
While the 10,% is actually engine oil.
Who told u mobil doesn't sell fake oil.its just a fuckin franchise bro.fake na dia name.

I was using a Mobil oil and noticed shortage within a month after servicing on several occasions. So I switch to another brand. Never noticed that again.

You did not reset the maintenance minder.

It is as simple as that.

The maintenance minder measures oil life using two parameters; distance driven and time.

The 2012 crosstour does not measure oil quality and quantity.

Next time, make sure the mechanic resets the maintenance minder in your presence or you do it yourself.

I did set the maintenance minder myself. What we arrived at is the Mobil 1 I got is likely adulterated as a lot of adulterated Mobil 1 is common in the market so I switched to Hardex 0W 20 so I’m observing it.

You are going from Mobil 1 (fake according to you) to hardex (who told you it's original) and you think you are better off?

Again, do the oil minder reset properly yourself next time or ensure whoever is doing it, did it properly.

Not an expert o but what i do know is 1,000km.is like Wuse to onitsha and back. That means you travelled with the car. And when you travel that colour is what you are going to get. That is what i see whenever i travel and i just get ready to change my oil.

But even with this colour i travel one more time before i change.

So i don't think there is anything wrong with your oil or oil reader. Travel depletes oil.
