THE Nigeria Police Force seems to have saddled itself with the role of revenue generation as it continues to advance the entrenchment of the Electronic Central Motor Registry for vehicle owners. Although the police have suspended the initiative, they should confront insecurity, their primary responsibility. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, should dismantle the project outright.https://punchng.com/e-cmr-excessive-tax-burden/

Tax!!! Borrowing!!!! Money!!!! That is what every agency of government under the ill fated Tinubu regime know. The primary constituent responsibilities have been jettison while the business of creating multiple conduits for extortion and continued oppression have been the order of the day. |

All government agencies wanted to create revenue for their boss so that he will tell them they're working. Police should remit part of the 200 they collect from motorist to their oga |

I don't think we pay enough taxes in Nigeria we just pay too so many multiple tax in Nigeria it's difficult Increase the tax rate and reduce the number of taxes 1) housing tax- these is the main tax government should focus on... House owners ( my self included) should be made to pay 1.5% of the house value in tax yearly So if your house is worth 50 million you pay 750k yearly ( let me see how u would pay that still vote based on tribal n religious sentiments 2) car road maintenance tax - car owners should be made to pay of 1% the value of the car per year for road maintenance If it's commercial car 5% the value of the car ( again let me see how u would pay this and vote a none performing brother) 3) betting or lotto tax All betting wining, casino winning, lottery winings should be taxed 45% minimum 4) income tax should get progressive Company income tax should he lowed to 15% |

They stress that it would digitise policing, ensure the safety of lives and properties by collating data and biometrics of vehicle owners, and provide robust incidence reports across the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. Security agencies make these claims in their attempt to burden Nigerians. |

Tinubu's strategy so far has been to tax Nigerians to poverty and use the proceeds to settle his goons. |

mrvitalis:Garbage. So u want them to create another avenue of looting while strangling Nigerians. The other tax we payed, and the money they keep borrowing what did they do with it? |

System202:You for example if you pay 2 million naira in total tax per year Would u allow your governor loot it and go free? That's 8 million in 4 years? Your street is not sweeped Your hospital is not standard Your kids still go to private school Your road still damage your car On election day you are offered 25k to vote him again Or one stupid full comes to carry your polling box Would u allow that? |

Same IG that said crime has reduced. See how they have legalized crime, planning to steal more than 50 billion naira from car owners. Thieves! |

mrvitalis:Your head is not correct seriously. We should pay all that, as to what has the government done or how much have they provided for the citizens so far, yet they continue to steal so much. So a worker maybe who has spend years working with the government, now build his house with his pension should now be paying taxes again to the government with his pension money he or she has suffered for years. Abi, it totally crazy in this country. |

mrvitalis:Bros you harsh o! on a serious note, Nigerians won't mind paying heavier taxes if only the gains are there to see. Unfortunately, therein lies the problem: one can hardly point at tangible things these taxes are used for. |

Doemmahy:what is the essence of plate number registration, driver license, road worthiness? They say Nigerians don't pay tax, but we are the most taxed people on earth. There's practically nothing u buy in Nigeria that doesn't have VAT. to repair your car, you must pay vat. Bread, biscuit, name it. Call credit vatted, to make the calls vatted. Tell me a commodity you buy in Nigeria that is not vatted. Nepa brings outrageous bills for darkness, you're also vatted, this is also after paying your personal income tax. |
| Re: E-CMR: Excessive Tax Burden - Punch Editorial by symbianDON(m): 7:27am On Jul 20, 2024 |
mrvitalis: Nigerians are quite unique in complacency! I can bet you, even if a tuber of yam sold for 20k/tuber and every plate of food taxed at 50%, many Nigerians would still a way of defending such, of course, along tribal and religious lines. |
| Re: E-CMR: Excessive Tax Burden - Punch Editorial by Mandate1: 7:34am On Jul 20, 2024 |
mrvitalis:do you how much the average Nigerian pays on electronic charge per annum? Yet u want a stiffer tax. |
