Amidst the saga regarding the refineries, business man Alico has during a press conference stated that imported substandard fuel is damaging fuel in the country.

He said this as a response to why he his lowering the price of diesel which he currently produces (some hinting that is a substandard).

He said most senators are already experiencing that damaged that this substandard products are causing Nigerian, a problem his refinery will provide solution to.

Finally, someone is speaking up! Alico Dangote is right on the money here. It's high time we address the issue of substandard fuel that's been wreaking havoc on our vehicles. Let’s demand better quality and ensure our cars don’t suffer for the incompetence of others. Nigeria deserves better!

Many of the vehicles imported into Nigeria from places like Nigeria operate on diesel standards that are sticter than what is currently available in Nigeria, Dangote's included.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began regulating diesel fuel sulfur levels in 1993, and in 2006 began phasing in stricter regulations to reduce the sulfur content to 15 parts per million (ppm) or less. This fuel is known as ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD).
The standards for ULSD are intended to reduce harmful emissions from highway vehicles and non-road engines and equipment by more than 90%. After 2010, all highway diesel fuel supplied to the market must be ULSD and all highway diesel vehicles must use ULSD. Most diesel fuel sold for off-highway (or non-road) use is also ULSD.
The EPA's regulations are a result of the Clean Air Act (CAA), which was amended in the 1990s to include technology-based standards that require the maximum degree of reduction of emissions of hazardous air pollutants.
Compare the 15ppm standard of the U.S. and the 10ppm standard in the EU to the Nigerian Standard of 650ppm and you will see why many who propose these machines in Nigeria run into problems. Even Dangote's supposed 90ppm measure which he claims he has been able to get some of his AGO to does not measure at all. undecided

I used to think this guy is so powerful he can have his way with any government, finally he has gotten his share of 'what Nigeria does to us'. They will sort themselves out as usual, when they are done calling themselves out. Both he and the NNPC are fighting over maintaining monopoly

Tiluumbu if you are patriotic let Aliko be. just because he didn't support you in the last election doesn't mean you will kill his refinary and if you feel his refinary is a monopolist tool kindly acquire it through the nnpc because you cant stop fuel subsidy and then continue importation of fuel. if you are not ready for the take off of Dangote refinary then bring back fuel subsidy

Sincerely I don't understand the logic behind producing crude oil, exporting it out and use the money gained from the sale to import refined products like diesel, petroleum etc at exorbitant prices instead of local refining.
So long our local refineries are not working, any substandard petroleum products wey we see make we take am like that.

He needs to provide evidence of this claim.

All these allegations & counter allegations should be substantiated with test results from certified labs.
That's the only way to know who is saying the truth.

I hope Dangote in fact means it when he said he would not enter Steel at all. That sector cannot afford these nonsense tactics of his. Nigeria needs at least 30 steel mills before 2050 if it has hopes of becoming industrialized by 2080. undecided

This is the problem with Nigerians. From time immemorial, Nigeria has been without an operational refinery. Someone took the initiative, damned the countless risks and put his monies on his line to invest in the sector then all of a sudden you guys have started screaming monopoly.

I no fit understand the evil wey dey follow na for that country

It's only fair for competition to exist to help bring down cost for consumers.

Ps: He got dollars at subsidized rate to build the refinery - socialized cost, but he is free to capitalize the profit.
