To do so would be unfair to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer - 'or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.

The Debates in the past were generally set well in advance despite their not being any nominee. The goal is that when there is a nominee, the nominee will just show up to the predetermined date. There is no excuse for Vance not to commit to a debate or even a time whether there is a VP nominee or not. There will be one at some point. They are running for President and VP, would they have something more important to do that day?

You tried to argue that Vance is not committing to debates because he wants to somehow make 100% sure who the VP nominee is. As if that was some rational explanation.
Why does he need to wait? Does it matter who the nominee is for him to commit to a debate? Why would it matter unless it impacts his decision on whether to debate. Would he be busy doing something else on that date?

That argument is silly on its face. It even contradicts years of how is has worked. The dates are usually chosen by the debate commission the year before, then the nominees are chosen.

It was a clear attempt to begin seeding the idea Vance won't debate.
