Some weeks ago, I was contacted by a guy who said he saw my contact on Nairaland regarding demand for software developer.

After some interactions, I decided to give him a task but he ended up scamming me.

Although the 10k is a small money, I have decided to share this here to prevent others from falling for his scams.

Very handsome dude nobody can never believe he's a scammer but we need to hear his side of the story. You could be a liar too

You are paying a web developer with such a portfolio 10k and from the screenshot it's been under 1 week since he snubbed you and you are coming here accusing him of a scammer and you think anybody would take you seriously. This guy obviously knows what he is doing from the chat he is clearly not a scammer. Focus on trying to find out what happened to him instead of coming here slandering someone's name

Not excusing the scammer, but I think most Nigerian devs, take the money out of desperation and later realize the issue is more than what they thought it was, so they initially delay because the motivation to do the jobs, usually gets gone.

It's why I tend to pay Nigerian developer a good sum. I've paid 150k for someone to convert Figma to HTML, because i value my time.

Also another issue is most NL dev will say they can do the job just for the money, so there's another angle too.

You either did not read the chat clearly or did not comprehend the content. Nobody offered him 10k for the job. He demanded for 10k to get data and vanished into thin air.

And as I stated ealier, 10k is not the issue but future clients should be aware of his scam potentials.

There are risks to doing business. Just consider this one of them.

The fact that you were willing to part with data money shows seriousness on your part.

The guy should have used that to level up.

It's his loss tho. He just lost a paying client.

It's like throwing money away on his own part.

I respect Clients who drop 300,000 and for months while in the project they are quiet and wait patiently. Web programmers and developers are big men stuffs who can understandthe pressure's and table work we go through all for the sake of Clients day n mid night hours. If you can't pay a good sum of money for a project, don't start. Programmers are humans too we need life we go get lives like others but e most don't scam just that impatience and awoof they some client eyes

Totally disagree with you on this. Whether 300k or 3bn, a software endeavor is a project with start and end dates and clear communication and evaluation expectations in between those. Any developer looking to get paid and not provide regular, periodic updates on the state of the project is not ready.

Plus in this case, they hadn't even talked about fees for the development. 10k was for the so-called developer to buy airtime so he can join a Zoom meet where the clients requirements were going to be laid out. 10k wasn't the fee for the project. For me, that was already a red flag. Any "dev" that cannot afford his tools is a definite "carnival of red flags".

The only saving grace is freelance, I have some few clients and my average pay from some could be within 300$ - 1000$ on a best and 200$ - 400$ on a bad day. So i thank God sha, yeah been applying but got some interviews though.

Well, I gave him the money because I thought he might just be having rough time.

Giving updates is normal for dev. I agree.
My point is if he's not convenient with the option to drop 10K , then he should not act as if he forced him to credit him ... The thing is once beaten is twice shy , some client can make you go all the way at the end they will tell you the job is no longer available. So who caters for all the expenses and time wasted ! Don't fool yourself Bro...face the truth and accept it. If someone wasted your time and you have nothing to show for it you will understand garri no be shawarma

What does he want to do with 10k data.
The dev said he can do it (he doesn't have to prove this), why not enter a contract with him and pay when he's done
