How Do You Handle False Accusation? by dacblogger(op): 10:31am On Jul 24, 2024
My story is long but will make it short Abit.

I moved into a house April this year and the house was given to us by the first Son of the house of which he told us that his mum(whom i have never met) lives in the compound too but she was not around then cos she has been sick so she went to her grown up daughters house to stay for a while.

1month after she came back . That period when she came back, we were not done packing our things inside cos we are still arranging stuffs inside.
She saw me with a kettle that I just brought out of a bag and asked if its mine, I answered yes and she still collected the kettle and checked it out even after I told her it's mine,I just let it slide although It got me angry.

My problem here is that I just found out yesterday morning that this woman told all her children that I took her kettle and all this while I didn't know I was accused of stealing something as little as kettle that I can afford to buy. She even told her son about it and the son had to replace the kettle and nobody told me about it.

I was so hurt and disappointed that all these while this woman has harbored hatred for me when All I have ever shown her is love and respect.
I expected the son to at least ask me about it cos he has my number and it's on WhatsApp but he never did.
I met with the woman and showed her the 2kettle that I own,she still insisted that I took her kettle. That's she patched it somewhere and yet she didn't see any patch in any of the kettle. But she was still convinced that it's her kettle. I had to leave after explaining myself to her.
My problem now is that I feel hurt and insulted and I want to confront her son about it cos I DNT know why she will accuse me of taking something as little as that.
All these while,I stay on my own and mind my business cos I DNT want trouble so I try my best to avoid people and their wahala.

Should I confront the Son or let it slide??

Moderators please move to front page if possible. Thanks

Okay i get you now.

Proceed to politely chat up the first son by telling him you just want to check on him how he is faring. When he replies and doesn't talk about the matter, Then politely and stylishly tell him there is a matter bothering you and you would like to bring it to his consent and put a light to it. Humbly explain yourself and don't sound like you are accusing his mum. Tell him you are not accusing his mom but God bear your witness you didn't took her kettle.

To live with you Women is not easy. I have been wrongly accused before and i handled it with wisdom.

And lastly you need to understand you women and territory marking and jealousy. His mother may not like you or just your staying around, just saying.

Start planning and praying to God to help you financially so you and your family can get a personal house of your own. All the best.

You don't have to do that.

The woman has been sick like you said, maybe the sickness don enter her head. The son is aware of this, the reason he replaced the kettle without making noise about it.

Just let it go.

Yes very important because false accusation can tarnish one's image to extent someone wouldn't imagine. Bad news fly faster. Who knows if his mom have relayed the news to her daughters and other people apart from his son. And you know how most of you women behave by believing and supporting your fellow women.

The son is a very matured man like someone said up there, probably he knows the kind of person his mum is or perhap the sickness is what is still affecting her reason why he didn't bother you. Most families despite their inner challenges, they will never paint themselves bad to outside people. I hope you get it now.

She is not that old so I DNT think it's the sickness.
She has had issues with people in the past that has led to her swearing Infront of a deity. Pple say that's why she got sick.
She even offered to swear that the kettle is hers

See i have figured out the whole thing now. My advice for you is you and your husband should strive and start looking for financial means to go rent your personal house where you will have rest of mind. It's not easy to stay with house owners in nigeria most especially Lagos on rent free except for some few landlords who are God sent. I also believe If you had come through the mom herself, believe me you won't have one single issue with her because you women usually like to decide who stays and who leave.

You can try to be friendly with the mom and helping her with chores. I understand you know all these things as a woman but the decision is left with you. If you do this and she is still somehow hostile to your family. You know what your final decision should be. I wish you and your family all the best.

We paid hugely for the house we are staying. It's not rent free .
I guess she wants to bring people that she wants to stay ín the house so she is doing everything to discredit us Infront of her son so we can leave .
Thanks for your advice. I truly appreciate.
I have already made up mind to leave even before our rent expires

Don't confront the woman again, just avoid her, you can still greet her if you want, that is if she'll answer.
If you have some money to spare, go to market, buy 2 or 3 kettles of different size, and give it to her, make sure her whole family is present while doing so, then forget about it.
After your rent expires, move out.

Since the matter is bothering you, address it.
It will be very bad if they continue to see or think of you as a thief. Especially someone "they helped".
Let things be clear so that it does not work against you in future.
