I have encountered tons of mentally ill people where I live. Even more in Nigeria. I never associate their mental illness to the color of their skin or sex.

If I assume that to be true, then I have some reason to think that centrists could be swayed by leftist positions if done right, like how Bernie was effective with his tax billionaires rhetoric and all that may not necessarily push them away, but I'm just speculating here.

I saw a trans person treating a black woman like she was low in the victim hierarchy. the video shows society moving towards a dystopia. you saw all the hate that guy was dishing out and you could not believe what you were seeing because you didn't want it to be true. if it was a straight man or if it was the woman who was on the offensive, you will be quick to believe it because then it will fit your narrative.

Bernie is very likable.
All he has to do in a general election is keep shut about his more divisive policies and just bask in a carnival-like mood.

In fact, in 2016, both of them--Bernie and Trump--were anti-establishment candidates and it was hard to parse rhetoric from reality.
For instance, many did not expect Trump to follow through on the Immigration ban or the Mexico will pay for the wall quip.
