Nigerian army rank structure for JUNIOR AND SENIOR CADER 🙌

Re: Ranking Cadre In The Nigerian Army. by Racoon(op):
The general cader is recognized by stars on uniforms, plagues and motorcade;

-1). Brigadier General is 1 🌟
-2). Major General is 2🌟🌟
-3). Lieutenant General is 3 🌟🌟🌟
-4). Full General is 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟
-5). Field Marshall is 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

So once you see this stars, you know the type of general you are seeing. This ranking system is based on the British colonial system. However, the introduction of the skewed and defective quota system really bastardized everything.

What about the motive and events of January coup in 1966, it didn’t bastardise it?

At what Rank do they get an Orderly, or an ADC
Re: Ranking Cadre In The Nigerian Army. by ImmaculateJOE(m): 2:24pm On Jul 30, 2024
So now like this, a Second Lieutenant who just graduated from the Defense academy, will automatically be higher in rank than an Army Warrant Officer, who has probably spent up to 30 years in active service..?

Is that how the system was screwed to be..?

Pray to reach the rank of brig gen before retirement. Thats the stepping stone to the zenith. In those days brigadiers werent considered generals. I think we borrowed that new system from the US.

Just like Nigeria, Uganda also inherited the British Army Ranking Cadre as a result of a shared colonial heritage.

The only Field Marshall Uganda has ever produced was:

“His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular”

Amin essentially promoted himself from Colonel to Field Marshall after staging a military coup to overthrow the sitting President Milton Obote.

Additionally, he officially proclaimed himself as the uncrowned King of Scotland.

Iliteracy is a bad thing grin

You see that waka from Sergeant to second Lieutenant is very hard, same as Police.
Many stayed around that rank for very long time but once you enter second Lieutenant, at least enjoyment don start be that

Field Marshal is very rare, I think it involves winning many wars

No,actually the rank that fits Mr President is the Generalissimo. It's higher than the FM who is the highest for the army alone in most nations. The field Marshall is a junior rank to the Generalissimo.

The Nigerian military is a significant factor in the country’s insecurity; we must face this reality. Not all situations can be resolved with guns and bullets. The military’s decision to violently remove Boko Haram’s leader contributed to the insurgency’s growth, and now they struggle to manage the situation. The same pattern is evident in the East, where the military's brutal response to protesters led to the rise of unknown gunmen.

The #EndSARS protest, initially peaceful, escalated into violence and looting after the military intervened. Given the widespread frustration and hunger in the country, the risk is high that any attempt to suppress upcoming protests with force could have severe consequences. The northern regions are particularly mobilized, and forceful measures could potentially destabilize the nation further.

Peaceful and constructive solutions are crucial to avoid worsening the situation.
