About three years ago. It was a bitter winter and I was dining at a restaurant around 11 pm in the night. It was very cold and if I remember correctly, it was -35 degrees Celsius below freezing point and if you pee outside, it freezes before hitting the ground. cold.

The restaurant was filled with everyone white except myself. I looked behind me and it was crowded with delivery drivers working for the delivery app, Skip the Dishes, waiting to pick up food orders. Nine delivery drivers and all black guys mostly Nigerian looking.

Imagine what it means to have to drive constantly in the bitter cold to deliver food when most people are either sleeping or enjoying themselves in a warm restaurant.

Some of these guys are even delivering with brand new SUVs purchased on credits and after a deeper dive, I came to realize our people here live mostly above their means to impress fellow Nigerians. They buy houses or cars they cannot afford and now have to work three jobs and drive on the side to maintain their fake lifestyles.

This is not a healthy way to live guys, learn to relax and enjoy yourself once in a while, do not live above your means and the fact that you are pre-authorized for that big mortgage, loan, or line of credit does not mean you have to accept.

Learn to live your life without trying to please or impress anyone and occasionally, take time off to have fun and enjoy yourself, take vacations.

Your write up is just empty and meaningless.

You just sounded like an empty egomaniac with nothing but just his pride.

You may even be in one slum in Nigeria when you typed that rubbish.

Very apt. Even in Naija, people do things just to impress others, because of what people will say! A man will decide he needs three kids all because children are a blessing from God and his friends have four each.

Dude, our people have been keeping up with the Joneses mentality. They also gossip about clothes, gele, fila, shoes, jewellery and bags others wear. So they worry about such things. In fact, a very strange set of values.

If you advise them, they will say you are jealous, you don't have taste or swag. In the West, nobody cares what you wear. Just be clean and decent.

Doing 4 jobs to live fake life can't be good for anyone's health.

But it's their life to live.

The only things fit chop my money now na airtime and plenty junk foods nothing else

I fit afford Mercedes Benz C300 but still prefer my legedis benz

I just wan invest for my unborn children sake rn

Living too far below your means isn’t smart either, it’s like you are a slave to money and it’s a poverty mindset.

Money is a tool meant to be used to make one’s life better and should be managed properly so we don’t live above our means.
If you live too far below your means, it shows you are a slave to money

Inasmuch as it is good to be frugal, you have to learn on how to take care of yourself. Eating junks will do your health no good. Else, you will not have a healthy life to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Save and live well.

...dont even go to pay.....go to quality of life firdt....of what essence is earning tgat low pay in those "decent" jobs in Nigeria only to spend half of it in buying adulterated fuel after queuing for hours then ply road s full of gorges to get home with no public power supply, and then, be your own security guard over night due to insecurity....then, if you mistakenly fall sick, you are a goner....you can't trade out of the city for fear of kidnapping, hunger and desperation surrounda you, polluted air all over..

Of what essence is the decent pay or jobs ams whn you live in misery...you only have 1 life....chose to enjoy the good side of life...you don't know whether you will come back again.

Yes, people hustle hard abroad. It is a choice. I know guys with very good pay who still hustle for extra hours after work. My uncle targets extra $40 daily and that's dedicated to his bills. That frees up his regular income for other commitments including his yearly vacations to Nigeria and his annual ship cruises in the carribeans.

For others, it's survival battle and they hustle all day. They need reliable all-purpose vehicles that won't give them problem. No time to waste.

Focus on your own life and challenges, people will always do what works for them.
