Before You Get Married by Mrwhite09(op): 8:28pm On Aug 12, 2024
my advice for those who are not yet married is to wait and see where this current government is leading us to. i got married since 2015, things were easy, with my 30k salary that time i lived a near normal lifestyle, i didnt lack basic requirements of life, i and my wife lived comfortably and were having 3square meal a day.
my doom started around 2019 when i was sacked from my place of work and my wife was pregnant that time, i had to send her to village because i cannot afford to cater for her needs due to lack of job.
luckily for me she delivered safely and i got another job, life continue to be going smoothly until lately where i am working due to this economic situation they said they will lay off some workers and unfortunately i among the ones they sacked.
i was able to saved 200k before they sacked me, i started withdrawing from it to feed my wife and my two children before i got another job. the 200k didnt last up to 3weeks due to exorbitant price of things.
i created this thread out of anger, today i went to shop with my last 800 naira to buy spaghetti for the four of us and i was told its now 1000 instead of 800 that i used to buy it. my eldest son is down with malaria since 2days ago i didnt know how i will treat him and now this happened.
I FEEL LIKE RUNNING AWAY. the situation of this country is not favourable at all. may God see us through.

Try to learn driving. Training cost 35,000 Naira, budget for drivers license at the end of your training like 25,000 Naira. You will thank me after you have this skill as jobs and opportunities will present themselves to you when you've attained mastery

Dear OP, I think you need to re-evaluate your life choices and improve on it. For example, since 2015, is it that your wife never worked and earned to complement your initial N30K salary? If that's the case then you need to consider this as your personal choice to marry a full house wife on N30k and went on to sire two children and not likely adding value to your wife. The second opportunity you had would have been better managed to prepare you for this your current predicament.

My counsel to you is to prepare for the next time you start earning regular income again. Empower your wife, serve/ volunteer and help more people and before producing another child, please have more savings, invest in even as little as shares of companies with future prospects and ensure that returns on your investments can pay your annual bills even when you are not earning regular income. One more thing, get more skilled or education so you can have more than one stream of income that your wife's future income will complement.

Your marriage is still young so you need to take serious planning and financial discipline much more serious before financial difficulties wreck your marriage (God forbid). Your predicament is 100% avoidable and it's as a result of your poor choices/decisions and sustained struggle to delay self gratification.

Please don't get frustrated and start blaming government to deflect the responsibility away from you. Marriage is a private business, not a
government business and you believe that you were man enough to start the business because Boys don't marry. Only men do. I wish you all the best of luck.
