Tbills or MMF?

Which to choose and why?

Some reasons why I will Prefer MMF to Tbills

You can start mmf with much lower amount compared to tbills. With 5,000 you can start investing in Stabbic mmf. The least for tbills is 100k.

When rate increases, it will not affect already invested funds in tbills but it does with mmf

You can't top up with tbills. Top up is very possible with mmf even if you want daily top up.

Terminating before tenor expiration in tbills comes with penalties. For mmf after just 30 days, exit is without penalties.

mmf has other instruments like commercial papers that contributes to its rate.

You can easily automate reinvestment of interest in mmf ie taking advantage of the power of compound interest.

It's the investor that determines mmf tenor hence you can hold mmf as long as you wish no restrictions, tbills particularly primary auction has fixed tenors 3 months, 6 months or 1 year.

Right now mmf rates is on the rise.

However, that is not to say Tbills is a bad investment. The one you pick MMF or TBills actually depends on the reason for investing among other factors which most times are peculiar to the investor.
Re: Mutual Funds by SimpleGuy001: 1:00pm On Aug 10, 2024
@emmasoft thanks for that.

Well I left mmf then due to bad rates. When tbill rate was better. So now I’m thinking of doing mmf not sure the rates now.

I have got 2.5m in Tbills and thought of building a mmf account that I can build overtime too.

I guess I’ll see about that.

Hi, can this changes be made on the settings. Like reinvesting the accrued interest
emmasoft:
@Mrajah231, it's normal no issues and no errors.
Please not that your balance at any point in time is always your capital plus your accrued interest but your accrued interest doesn't earn interest.
By the end of every month if you opted for interest reinvestment during your registration, the accrued interest will be added to your capital and will start to earn interest ie Compounding.
Right now what has just happened is that your accrued interest has been added to your capital. Later today or tomorrow check again you see that your accrued interest will be zero or the interest of just one day depending on the time you checked.

NB: this will always happen at the end/beginning of every month.

Can I have fbnquest links and do they have physical offices
freeman67:
No, it wasn't. They insisted they have added it. So, I had to let that one go for my own peace of mind.

Like I said earlier, I have decided to start downloading and keeping my statements. I did that for end of December and for January after it's been added. I discovered the profit/interest they posted or claimed to add is not complete.

I used Asset Management Companies. The 2 others are FBNQUEST and United Capital. I have never had any discrepancy with the interests posted and added by these other except Stanbic.

Stanbic used to be my best/favourite of them all... I was on the verge of moving my pension from my present PFA before I discovered this. So, I now know I should not try that.

I operate 2 MMF accounts with them. The 2 have these discrepancies of figures not adding up in their favour.

Yes FBNQuest have physical office in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

I can send you any link. The last time I tried it I was banned but then getting them is easy. Just Google FBN Quest or go to play store and download FBNQUEST App. From there you can easily contact them by mail for anything.

Just Google their email address and send a mail to their customer service. In the mail make sure your MMF Account number. Then attached the proof of payment.

Monday to now is long na. It shouldn't take more than 2 days. Something is wrong so you should contact them.

You can call this number for FBNQuest: 09087522444 ( Chukwuma).

I made an enquiry through the number earlier this week and it was resolved.

Also, fixed deposits with banks like Fair money MFB and Renmoney MFB both are competitors in the industry and with good rates.

Their own advantage over MMF or Tbills or FGBonds is that u can gain access to both your principal and interests at any time and u choose to fix any amount you can afford. Accessing Renmoney can be via web( phone/ PC) and app.... Fair money by app. These have the best rates so far.

I've emailed ARM, Stanbic, and numerous other institutions and received replies.

FBN Quest, however, has never responded to my email.

I initially had little interest in committing much to ARM, but their exceptional customer service completely changed my mind, similar to Stanbic's.

I admire First Bank and seriously considered them alongside Stanbic when I was exploring MMF options. Unfortunately, my experience with FBN Quest’s customer service was disappointing.

Experiences could be different sometimes. So far whenever I mail them, they will reply. It may not be instantly but then, I always get their replies.

Though it's been long I mailed them, Attached is their respond the last time I had issues of money not being credited.

Please what's the formula for calculating interest on mmf? e.g. Let's say principal of #7M with current interest rate of 20.91% will yield interest of how much?

Thanks

It's same formula for simple interest and then prorated to daily interest.

Using the capital stated, and with the assumption that rate was constant, no reinvestment, no top up or partial redemption for one year, here is your interest
I= 7m*20.91*1/100
I = 1,463,700 this is what you get for 1yr.
Daily you will have 1463700/365

4,010.14 is what you get daily.
But if you pick the option to reinvest the accrued interest you will have more even if the rate remains constant.

This is just estimate and with the assumptions already stated above.
