To what end then? What's the noble goal of war if not to conquer and occupy? Russia has about 500 more than the US, but the US has more active nukes than Russia. This explains why the US has the highest defence budget in the world. And Russia doesn't even make top 5.

Yes, the US used nuke on 2 Japanese cities in WW2. And mind you, they weren't loosing the war. Japan ran out of plans and employed the kamakazi suicide bombers to hit American ships. In fact most of Japan's major beaches like Okinawa had fallen to the US.

The issue of nukes came when the white House told the president to end the war at all cost. They weren't loosing.

NATO and Ukraine broke the agreement hence the invasion by Russia to prevent that. Imagine America hosting nuclear weapons next to your country, or imagine Israel next door to you.

Some regions in Ukraine, particularly, Russian speaking parts (4region- luansk, zaporizhia, Kharkiv, and one like that) wanted to break away from Ukraine which Ukraine didn't allow them.
