Can somebody tell me why the 2nd Niger Bridge was built? That bridge cost nearly 2 billion dollars. If you look at the picture, the bridge is within walking distance from the PERFECTLY FUNCTIONING 1st Niger Bridge to the left. You can walk from one bridge to the next in about 10 minutes! That 2 billion dollars could have been put to use in more productive ways for the masses. The south east pressured the FG to build this WHITE ELEPHANT bridge. https://mmo.aiircdn.com/370/634fec13bceef.jpeg Here is the absolutely perfect 1st Niger Bridge. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F_npInIXcAAbeeI.jpg What was wrong with this bridge, that they had to build a brand new one right next to it for 2 billion dollars? Meanwhile the much more productive potential Lagos - Calabar coastal highway was lambasted by the SE people as a ''waste of money''! Even our president having a 100 million dollar plane purchased to fly him around safely was lambasted by Peter Obi and his SE cohorts. Some of them even saying he should fly with Air Peace. Yet they backed this useless White Elephant that cost 20 times more than the plane? Am I missing something here? |

You are wrong in all facets. Asides the fact that the old bridge is dilapidated and hardly take much weight as supposed to(kindly read up how only one lane is permitted to ply the bridge at a go during heavy traffics and festive periods), what would you say has been FG's input to the whole of the eastern Nigeria in terms of infrastructure for the past decade? The worst form of roads in the east is always the trunk A roads. Who and who pressured your FG if not necessity? Again, why not put the existing roads in good shape before starting the so called coastal high way that will take years to complete? |

Dagah2:How is the bridge ''dilpidated''? That bridge looks okay, and seems to just need a spray wash! When a bridge like that is getting old, you do reinforcement engineering to strengthen it. The solution is not to build a 2 billion dollar brand new ''2nd'' bridge right next to it, unless you are UAE and all these money miss road gulf oil countries with tiny populations. After all we have far older bridges than that all over the world that are still standing gidigba till today, like Brooklyn bridge New York, that was built in 1869. 1st Niger Bridge was built in 1965! Yesterday! |

Tellmeastory:Hate blindfolded you not to know what dilapidated means. It made you skip the part where I detailed how only one lane comes to use during heavy traffics. And you haven't stated who pressured your FG to build it. Yes, built in 1965 but with carriage to take as much pressure as it takes currently? Do you know that's the gateway to the east and how much cargoes ply it every now and then? |
| Re: Why EXACTLY Was The 2nd Niger Bridge Built? I Need A Cogent Answer! by Tellmeastory(op): 5:09am On Aug 17, 2024 |
Dagah2:Use your head, IPOB. ''only one lane comes to use during heavy traffic'' because LIKE I SAID, the bridge needed reinforcement engineering to strengthen it. The Brooklyn bridge wasn't built in 1869 to handle the weight it does today. It was strengthened to handle today's level of weight. SAME should have been done with the 1st Niger Bridge, rather than building a brand new bridge for 2 billion dollars right next to it. |

Tellmeastory:Bros I have been on that bridge during festive period and you’ll feel you have convulsion in your own car. Without the second bridge omo that bridge for don collapse by now and besides the bridge isn’t wide enough, apart from usage of one lane at times if a truck breaks down on that bridge, the entire onitsha and asaba roads will be on total lockdown. Walking from the old bridge to the new one can never take 10 minutes. It’s more than that. Now let me tell you why the second bridge was built…The northern goods passes through there to the rest part of the country. Are you okay now.? |

Tellmeastory:Anyone that challenges your bigotry and counters your idiocy is IPOB abi!? In your alternate universe, but for IPOB, your Nigeria would be developed, united, peaceful and progressive! It then begs the question as to why you fought a war to ensure the ‘IPOB’ don’t detach themselves from you…and why you’re not supporting their present efforts to see the back of you! You have proof the second Niger bridge cost $2 billion dollars? If so, can you share it with us? If it does turn out that the bridge cost the amount you claim, then the cost has obviously been inflated by your darling APC gov’t! Face them! If we check all the billions of dollars Nigeria has sucked out from Alaigbo, with little to show for it in their region by way of federal presence, then wouldn’t you say they more than deserving to have $2 billion dollars worth of project in their region!? That’s assuming the figure you quoted is correct. |

LOVEALAIGBO:All your epistles is not what the OP is asking. His point is why did the SE blackmailed the FG to build 2Niger bride when it could have been rehabilitated and probably added another lane for wider passage rather than building a brand new bridge when there are other pressing commitment. Same Igbo are the one shouting at the top of their voice that the coastal road is a wasteful spending |

You igbos think you overwise. If there is traffic that lead to using one way uring heavy traffic what can't you governor's build good adjourning road to n fro the bridge so that vehicular movement is eased preventing clogging of traffic instead of wasting $2 billion on thise that do not deserve it. If you talk about hate every Nigeria who is fair in reasoning know you deserve much more hate because we saw the hate you dish out on Northerners 8 years of Buhari n which you are also presently doing to the Yorubas under Tinubu so hating you is legit as you also hated others . Can you listen to the foolish excuse this clowns are dishing out for wasting 2 billion dollar on a bridge. If a truck break down why can't the lunatics you elected as governor provide standby tow vehicle like we have on 3ed mainland bridge ?! So because you igbos elect lunatics n failures as governor we have to keep wasting 2 billion plus to build new bridges eveey now n then yet same you do not want others to have coastal road ?! No war was fought to keep ipob in Nigeria, a war was fought to teach the lunatics that instigated the war that their fathers foolish head will be flogged mercilessly n relentlessly if they dare try such again. The federal allocation to your state monthly can whatever is taken from your 5 enclaves amount to half of it ? LOVEALAIGBO: |

Ttalk:I take it you’re Yoruba!? Did your lot protest when the same federal gov’t built 3rd mainland bridge in the Lagos you claim belongs to you….even as there were other bridges already in use!? Oh…so all this is about the fraudulent coastal road Tinubu is using to further enrich himself and his business associates! How come the only persons questioning the fraud that you noticed are the Igbo ones!? That coastal bridge is a luxury the country can ill-afford at the moment, especially when there are already existing roads in dire need of rehabilitation! You can’t draw a parallel with the 2nd Niger bridge because the existing one isn’t sufficient for the traffic that needs to use it! The issue of it being old is still relevant but secondary to the one of it not being fit for purpose because of safety concerns! Hope you’re also aware your thieving federal gov’t will toll the bridge? |

Tellmeastory:Dude if you are trying to use the coastal high way to justify the second Niger bridge then you have to think again. The reason people are complaining is because amid hardship the president is rushing to build a coastal highway while the federal roads leading to those regions are in bad shape. If the president had first of all repair those roads before building the coastal highway I don't think anybody would complain. You don't count B before A. |

LOVEALAIGBO:What I see from your comment is selfishness and lack of compassion for other. It is simply I Before Other mentality that disgusts average Nigerians from you people's egocentric nature. If the 2nd Nigeria bridge was a priority, why is the coastal road not a priority? 2nd Niger Bridge was built when Nigeria took the highest loan and fell into recession twice and it was cool with an Igbo man but he can't just swallow a coastal road being built at a time Nigeria is paying back its loan. |

You must have picked up your woefully lacking knowledge of history while you were sampling a plate of ewedu and gbegiri at Iya Lekan bukka! Dude, your useless and unity-begging federal side wanted to keep Nigeria one owing to the fact that they had their covetous eyes on the oyel and gas in the Eastern Region! It was all about economic survival and greed! Events that have played out since that war have proven this to be true! |

Tellmeastory:You are missing a whole lot, and the worst of it is that you are spreading lies and falsehood. The southeast at no time lambasted the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project by describing it as "waste of money." Atiku, Peter Obi, and other notable Nigerians pointed out the fact that the project is not a priority. In fact, Atiku described it as a highway of fraud. Peter Obi, on the other hand, mentioned that the project is not a priority. He further said that there are existing roads like the east-west coastal highway, the calabar itu road, and others major roads that are in a very dilapidated state, which a reasonable government should have prioritised by making sure it's in good shape instead of earmarking #15 trillion into building a new Lagos-Calabar coastal highway that will take decades to complete. Mr. Tellmeastory, You don't need to tell stories laced with lies and falsehood just to denigrate the entire southeast region in order to make your point. It's unnecessary. The south east has no business lambasting the project by describing it as a waste of money because when the project is completed and put to use, all Nigerians will make use of it. Just as the Niger Bridge is being used by all Nigerians, not just the southerners alone. |

Ttalk:Goodluck started the project point of correction. I doubt if you've seen the kind of congestion that is experienced along that bridge besides that it's a 1.6km project. So lemme ask you a simple question, you have a road that is already existing, is it better to build a coastal highway and abandon the existing one? And secondly are you saying the present economy of this country can be compared to previous administration |
