You hate Tinubu because he destroyed the political career of Peter Obi and has made it politically impossible for any IIGB0 to become president for at least the next 32 years

MKO is more like personal accomplishments BUT he definitely belongs on the list but at the bottom

Gani belongs on the list but he is not edging out Pa Awo or Obasanjo

Funmilayo belongs on the list too somewhere in the middle

Hmmm where do the folks of yonder years fit in. Madam tinubu, lamurudu, oba akitoye, oba kosoko . I don’t think they was bringing as much heat as obasanjo. I hear biafran bullet is still lodged in obasanjos yansh till today 🤣🤣🤣. Baba done waka. Nigerian president for 12 years. Only one man. The top spot is between him and pa Awo

MKO's blood was shed for this democracy.
Say what you like about his personal life, but at the end of the day, he was the sacrifice that was paid in blood for this democracy.

oh I am not in any way negating his achievements but they were all personal endeavors and not statesman-esque. The man was driven by his own personal ambitions and quest for power. I seriously don’t think he had any great plans for Nigeria. He just wanted power. What’s the next step up after you have conquered wealth ? Try to conquer power. But nevertheless a very great man in his own rights

Sometimes in our very flawed nature we are still led to do great deeds and for a great purpose. MKO remains the sacrificial bull whose blood made this democracy possible. The injustice done to him was so great that for the first time there was a consensus that the Yoruba must be compensated and that was how we had two Yoruba candidates and that was how Obasanjo was chosen. So Obasanjo would not even have arisen as a civilian president but for MKO.

As for Awo, he was never able to win a national election in Nigeria so please.

MKO remains a giant and I repeat: his blood watered this democracy. He was the sacrificial bull that was slaughtered for this country. So let no one put him down merely because he was ambitious. The truth is that when push came to shove he could have elected to run away with his life and wealth intact and he did not. That was beyond ambition. That was conviction.

All said and done, I still elect FELA as the greatest due to his activism as a rebel, his music, his inspirational capacity, his honesty, his originality. He remains for me one of the greatest human beings ever. Soyinka would have come really close but he has tainted himself in his old age by appearing to cuddle corruption in the person of the lowest and filthiest person on the list - Bola Tinubu.

The bold just shows you know nothing about MKO, the most generous man who ever lived.
OAU is not the only University, and others have also established universities.

The truth is that AWO was a regional and not national champion. This is why unlike MKO he could not win elections outside the south west. He is also despised in the South East for very good reasons because he was a war criminal, given that he broke the Geneva Convention by deploying starvation as a weapon of war.

so being a generous person is a criteria for being one of the greatest yoruba men that ever lived ? You are smoking something. MKO who in death his family fell apart and went broke because he was only about his own pleasures of partying and marrying many wives and fathering millions of children. An irresponsible man who wanted to be president so as to loot money to feed his many children after he had already looted ITT. This is your definition of someone greater than AWO who today in death his legacy lives on because his university churns out graduates every year and is one of the top rated universities in the world. Have you seen the architecture of OAU ?

You crazy bro but then again what do you expect from someone who chooses a man who walks about in pant and smokes Igbo as the greatest Yoruba man ever 🤣🤣

bro you know you already lost the argument. MKO is not a great Yoruba man. He is just a rich man who wanted to be president. I guess we should start putting the name of every rich Yoruba man as the greatest Yoruba men who ever lived then, okoya Thomas, otedola, mike adenuga etc etc 😄. Ok am sorry

Thank you.

Now here are my points. Rememeber I said that sometimes even through our flawed nature we are chosen for certain inimitable deeds. True, MKO was highly flawed, greedy, corrupt, a "friend" of the military, and kept a ridiculously large harem of women with an unwieldy home. He was also inordinately ambitious. But you see, when great things must be done, the gods will seldom send a saint to do them. Winston Churchill who the Brits venerate for his role in WW2 was no saint for example. Not only was he personally depraved and hedonistic, he was also one of the greatest racists of all time. My point is that you seem to be expecting a saint as a saviour at the critical moment in history. It scarcely happens like that. Rather a mere mortal - warts and all - with a thousand flaws will show up and save the day.

Such was it with MKO. The truth remains that without his personal struggle, we will not have the democracy we have today. Please point me to one individual who paid a greater price or had a bigger role in the delivery of the 4th republic if you can, and you will see my point.

So beloved was MKO at the hieght of his popularity (and this was on account of his great philanthropy) that he won even in Kano, the homestead of his opponent. That great philanthrophy is what you are failing to recognize by watering it down as "any rich man." No - Is Dangote so beloved? Is Otedola so beloved? Is Adenuga so beloved? Jim Ovia? Tony Elumelu? Name any one. Not one single one of them is as beloved as MKO was on account of his great philanthrophy and famed generosity of spirit. This is a man who would drive by churches and mosques and poor people and stop to give out money all the time. This trait endeared him to the masses like no one else. And when the critical time came, we gave him our mandate and he stood with it till he was murdered as a sacrificial lamb for our freedom. That, my friend, is enough to immortalize a man, no matter how flawed he was otherwise.

Therefore I think you are being disrespectful and ungrateful to someone who practically laid down his life for your freedom. Whether you believe it was out of ambition is neither here nor there - because without his death, you will not have your democracy today. And the fact remains that he could have walked away and lived.

Conversely you keep repeating OAU as though it is the only university in the world. How many universities are there in Nigeria for heavens sake, is OAU the only one? How many people have established universities? Many. Look, at the end of the day it was a governement project, not a personal one. It is as absurd as crediting Tafawa Balewa for the establishment of UNILAG in 1962, since he was the Prime Minister.

And on a personal note, I noticed you completely ignored what I said about Awo being a war criminal. Is it that you think it does not matter? Or do you doubt that he admitted being the brain behind the starvation which was deployed as a weapon of war during the civil war? Do you not realize that that was a war crime and taints his legacy? Aside from this, tell me why he was never able to win a national election. Do you not realize that this shows that he was strictly a Western Regional champion and never a true nationalist?

I like Obasnajo very much, but I repeat, there would be no Obasanjo without the slaughtering of the bull that was MKO. Furthermore, OBJ also has his warts. We all know that he is one of the most fantastic hypocrites you can ever think of, although he was still one of our best presidents ever if not the best.

You can laugh at my love for Fela and denigrate him as "that man who wears pant and smokes igbo".. . . . but life is deeper than that. The world will be nothing without certain crazy people and some kinds of greatness are only found in crazy people. If you dont understand this, I cant help you.

lol bro you keep talking about this democracy like it’s a great thing. So he died so a bunch of looters can take over. This country was way better under military rule which reminds me I need to put TUNDE IDIAGBON under the list of great men. Bro we are talking about morally upright principled elder statesmen who command respect here like jakande and awo etc and you are here naming rich party animals with 50 wives and 300 children as the greatest Yoruba men. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 make we add Shina Rambo join as a great Yoruba man then 😄🤣
