UK vs Nigeria: Why I Will Never Attend A Church In Nigeria Again - Man by Newlymarried(op): 4:20am On Aug 18, 2024
A Nigerian man who lives in the UK has shared his experience in a church in England that changed his perception.

The man named Femi Adepoju said he doubts he'll be able to attend an African church ever again after the positive experience in a UK church.

He wrote on Facebook: "I donated money to a cause in our church in Nottingham and after a week the oyinbo Pastor find time to write me and sent me total amount they received and how they spent it.

I started giving monthly with direct debit too and church finance find time to write me and thank me o telling me that my giving can even reduce my tax.

I joined Food bank group to help homeless who we preach to and feed every Wednesday and I asked the assistant Pastor how they used to source for the food and detailed reply was sent to me with a note of thanks.

No abuse.
No it’s above your level phrase.
No nonsense reply.

Nigeria church needs to learn accountability and ease of running church.

I do not think I will be able to attend African version of church again even in Nigeria

Lol
Well he might be right with his view is is exclusive to him.

The tin is, Those village orthodox churches use to give account of how they received and spent the church money/donations at the end of every year...in my hometown that is the norms actually so I was used to it before I left for the cities.

It was when I got to lagos I saw that there also used to be different churches with different ideas, management system and extortion techniques in the name of collecting dues and gifts.

Some of the churches are direct clones of the old orthodox churches we were used to in the village, same mode of service and all but the only difference is the way they collect money. These clones churches are hungrier for money more than a responsible family man. And the funny thing is that nothing like accountability or reports on how the money was spent.
If u dare ask the pastors and some followfollow church members will blackmail u in front of other listening ears into believing u re a devil, antichrist, antipastor and a person who is not filled with the holy spirit. That time u need deliverance grin

Laslas a no kuku dey attend church again

OP FYI all churches are registered as NGO which must be audited and account for every penny received and spent to the govt. The letter you received detailing their account are evidences for audit report. And as an NGO you are non profit and mandated to run programs helping the needy and poor. The govt closely monitors your activities and expects the church to keep to all stipulated rules and regulations guiding NGOs.
Check the whole of UK how many churches do you see boasting of massive buildings except the very old orthodox churches
So church in the UK is a helping non profit group.

I must make it mentality is the problem with most Nigerian and churches in Africa at large.
Competition for who rich pass among our pastors going on in the church today is a terrible omen.

say something about politics, some will believe and some will not. say something about sports, some will believe and some will not. but say something about the church or pastors. everybody will believe without even confirming the authenticity of the news.... I'm not defending pastors , there are lots of fake pastors as well as fake politicians. but the morden world seems to have one goal towards the church . HATE!!! , that is why they can unite when it's comes to criticize the church.

Every public holiday they must take advantage and hold a program. Church is just a business.

Most Nigerian Christians are too arrogant, dumb and toxic. That's a combination akin to the mixture of yam, akamu and rice for brunch. I don't argue with them abeg. Before they send down fire like Elijah allegedly did.

No matter how we worship God, he still accept us because I've discovered he never created a single language for mankind.. He has a reason or more why we are created differently yet one God..

Accountability is not exclusive to them. They may show it more than we do in Africa.

Make una continue dey go for daily fleecing and scamming, waste of time, I rather play video games on a Sunday morning than visit any church.

Is it an inferiority complex of the black man or just an outright "village boy" mentality that makes them disparage anything Nigeria at the slightest opportunity when they just land US or Europe.

While it's reasonable to give accounts for how money is spent anywhere, a church is not Biblically compelled to do so. The Church is built on trust. There are many risks and sacrifices that pastors would take for church members sef that based solely on nothing else but trust.

TRUST is the bane of the assembly of the local church. Trust for God and His men. So giving account is good. But I don't need my pastor to give account to me when I give in the church. That's the church where I'm being blessed. My giving there is in thanksgiving to God and in response to my trust for HIM and the men He has chosen to lead me.

Mind you, there are hundreds of churches in Nigeria that do exactly what he's exalting "oyibo" for. Many of the orthodox churches and even some pentecostals.
