On a more serious note, I like Alexander the great's biography and I remember reading a lot of novels in Secondary school like Pot pourri, Gulliver's travels, Treasure island, Nigerian authors like Soyinka's play of giant, Nguigi wa Thiongo, Cyprian Ekwensi, Elechi Amadi, etc.

I prayed to God to make me a magician to avoid need to think about money, positions in govt, and other necessities.
So I got up in search of books about magic to buy, when I saw a book seller, selling books on the floor,I stood in search of books about magic.
My search ended when is saw this book "The secret_The magic" by Rhonda Byrne.®️
A book written with a life time experience with people in respect for Thankfulness and Gratitude to God and respect for mankind.🖼️🎨🖌️
I took the book immediately and paid Three thousand one hundred naira 3️⃣1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣for the book, well I don't know why the hundred naira was added but I paid for it and took it.📙
I can never stop reading that book even when am happy or sad, at the back of the book i started writing numerological numbers in multiple sequences.🖋️🎲3️⃣6️⃣9️⃣🔟🗝️✔️
I just hope i would become a magician and help others financially with all gratitude to God.🌎💯
Were you able to lay your hands on the book that inspired the author to write it?

I mean, "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles.

I believe in miracle!

Oh man, the mad rat-race in Nigeria doesn't allow anyone to read fiction novels again. The present reality breeds hard times.

Be that as it may, the novel that touched my heart most is Sydney Sheldon's novel:
A stone for Danny Fisher
Read it and hate poverty!
True Nigeria has changed our reading culture. I started by reading novels my dad bought and read when he was in active employment. Now I don't have the same luxury.

Sidney Sheldon was the best storyteller I've seen. All his novels were tremendous hits and page turners with no single dulling moment. From Master of the game, bloodline, windmill of the gods, rage of angels, if tomorrow comes, stars shine down, memories and other side of midnight were back-to-back-to-back hits.

God rest his soul.

Harry Potter series 1 - 7 by J.K Rowling is the most interesting and engaging piece of literature I've ever read, but I don't consider it a novel due to the length.

For proper novels, my best five are:

1. Windmill of the Gods - Sidney Sheldon (The don of unexpected twists, mindblowing suspense and action. Number 1 for a reason)

2. By the light of the moon - Dean Koontz (Exciting mystery, thriller, gave me my first insight into fictional nanotechnology)

3. Kane & Abel - Jeffery Archer (a masterpiece in family politics, plots & business intrigues)

4. Shogun - James Clavell (Greatest epic book imo. My first introduction to Seppuku and other Asian practices)

5. Beyond Pardon - Bertha M. Clay (greatest romance novel in my opinion and to think it was written since 1890)

Locally, my best five:

1. The Gods are not to blame - Ola Rotimi

2. Arrows of God - Chinua Achebe

3. An African night's entertainment - Cyprian Ekwensi

4. A gift to the troubled tribe - Segun Okunoren

5. Shaka Zulu (the funny sounding names like bulawayo, dingiswayo were so fascinating to me at the time combined with the epic plot)

By the way who remembers the book below:
You Sabi... nice list.

Half of a yellow sun by chimamanda Adichie

It was her first novel I've ever read, I've never heard about her prior to that time, but ever since i read that novel, i began to research about her and other books she has written and I've read each of them. She's a very good writer. I wonder how a single person could possess such a writing skill. I love her so much

It's surprising to see that some people on Nairaland consider "The Gods Are Not To Blame" to be an outstanding book and even their greatest literary achievement. No wonder their thinking is so limited—they lack critical thinking skills, likely due to insufficient education. I remember reading that book in my first year of secondary school and not finding it particularly impressive.

The last set of books I read, about ten years ago, (as I am busy now with money making) were by Dan Brown, including titles like Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol, Inferno, Origin, and others by John Grisham, such as The Pelican Brief, The Broker, The Runaway Jury, The King of Torts, and Sycamore Row. Others are Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, Long Walk from Freedom (Memoirs/biography by Nelson Mandela)

When it comes to local literature, I really enjoy many of Chinua Achebe's works, including Things Fall Apart, No Longer at Ease, and A Man of the People.

I took a picture of some of them now.

Sometimes I wonder how I fell in love with reading novels. I presume it was out of sheer curiosity. Although I no longer read novels, I can't help but reminisce on the good ol' days.

I've read a lot of novels from authors such as Dante Alighieri, Leo Tolstoy, George R.R. Martin, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Stephen King, Dan Brown, Agatha Christie, J.K. Rowling, Mario Puzo, Robert Ludlum, J.R.R. Tolkien, Sidney Sheldon, George Orwell, Tom Clancy, James Patterson and our very own Chinua Achebe just to mention a few.

My personal favourite would be Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

What's yours?
