The name Christian was given by Divine Providence. So Jehovah had a hand or intervention in making this unique group have a name and that will not seem to promote any divisive sect favoring Jewish disciples against Gentile disciples (like the nation of Israel) but they are united. It could not have been from faithless humans or in mockery of the disciples that they adopt the name cos it seem to come from divine proclamation or providence as you read. It is just that a quick glance at the verse make it look like it was the unbelievers or the Jews that gave them the name but no, it was by Divine Providence, some translation uses the word, divine appointment or proclamation
Jesus Christ is the head of the Christian congregation which he symbolically calls his wife. Just as a wife bears her husband name, the name Christian has a deeper meaning. Another word was The Way. The unbelievers used Sect to describe them.
For instance, I could say it was in Columbus, Ohio in 1931 that the Bible students began to be called Jehovah's Witnesses by Divine Providence. Without careful investigation, one may think it was the neighbors that gave us that name maybe cos we were using God's name unlike others but with available information, we know it was adopted then and announced by Rutherford. Were some of the neighbors beginning to use Jehovah to describe us before then? Personally , I don't know but it is possible someone may have used, 'Jehovah people is here'. The name Jehovah was rarely used then but we were already using it and making it known long before 1931 until the name was officially adopted but DIVINE PROVIDENCE so using Jehovah name before then was kind of new or strange to the people cos that was not what they were taught in Churches but formerly it was International Bible Student Association but we did not see any need of a distinguishing name. We are also known as Kingdom Proclaimers or Kingdom publishers cos we tell about the kingdom . It is only unbelievers that give us name like wickedness, cultists, poor , brainwashed, sect and pedophiles. Similarly, in the first century, since preaching about exercising faith in Jesus Christ as the way of salvation to both Jews and Greeks was completely new but that was what they were known for since the day of Pentecost, someone could say, 'These Jesus Christ people are here', 'The preachers of Christ are here', I am not saying it happened but it's possible but the name CHRISTIAN did not crept his way into the congregation as a mockery or mere description of some people telling about Jesus. It was given by DIVINE PROVIDENCE. Possibly at a meeting then with the brothers, a prominent member could have announced it and they joyfully carried it

Sadly but true to what Jesus and Paul foretold, the entire group fell into apostasy much later and the name Christian does not even show or prove one knows Jesus or even put faith in him. It was used in wars to spread the gospel (political false gospel) and today, politicians, lesbians, criminals,etc openly acknowledge they are Christians. Even an atheist where he wants to fill a form and he's asked to choose between Muslim, Christian will likely choose Christian even though he may hate the group but he had a Christian background. The name Christian is now like a tradition, it is even politicized and used as a State religion. The name Christian is still valid as it describes ones personal relationship with Jesus Christ but it is also a misnomer. A Muslim that says he wants to be a Christian can simply enter any religious building claiming faith in Jesus whereas they do nonsense and we have several thousands of Christendom denomination that contradict themselves in beliefs and practices and what they Bible teaches. We , Jehovah's Witnesses don't want to identify with Christendom so the name Jehovah's Witnesses is very fitting and by Divine Providence. This is the time of Restoration. The name does not describe who we are but what we do. We also exercise faith in Jesus Christ and we're Christian but not as a religious-political group and that's why we don't associate with other groups.

Honestly, you're amazing too. For a week, I was banned and could simply read messages. I enjoy much of your comments honestly. You're like a honeybadger, it can face a pride of lion and it won't give up. Personally, I'm trying hard to limit my comments here cos I feel sometimes, it leads to arrogance in knowledge, insults which are really unchristian and I feel I am using pride and using myself as a tool to those who hate us to paint a bad image on Jehovah's Witnesses and I feel bad really. See, I do not go by conventional Christianity myself. I have studied wide to discover that the Roman Catholics delivered a lot of falsehoods to us. In an attempt to discover what the real truth is, studies were made by many groups, certain truths were established and this led to denominations. Each denomination was founded by groups that believed in the same truths they discovered. Truths are still being discovered as we speak, and there are still many breakouts as a result.

I have questioned many things in my own Christian journey. I have visited Roman Catholic, JW, Anglican Methodist White Garment and eventually settled for Pentecostalism because that's where the Gospel is practically demonstrated. Pentecostalism keeps updating because they're very flexible and open to learning new things as are being thought by the Holy Ghost. That does not mean there are no charlatans among them as there are in all denominations and groups.

So, my argument or conclusions are not one sided as you suppose. Except you have had varied experiences as I, you probably would never understand the errors you hold on to.

As I said earlier, I'm not the conventional Christian. I'm Pentecostal but I can admit that Pentecostalism is not perfect. No denomination is perfect. No organization is perfect. The Roman Catholics bastardized Christianity before the Reformation. The Reformation has not stopped. God is still reforming the Church. That is why we need to keep following God bumper to bumper so as to keep ourselves updated regarding what God is doing right now. Many organizations are dwelling on what God has done yesterday. God has moved on, and they were left behind because they were myopic.

I keep studying the scriptures for myself without being carried away by the rules or doctrines of Pentecostalism. God deals with people individually and not as a group. That's why I just laugh at your ignorance when you always ask for a church. You seem to believe that truth can only be found in a church. A church is governed physically by individuals who claim to receive from God. They are mere men. There's nothing special about them. They're just the usual human beings like you with the same weaknesses and needs. But the truth is that God gives revelation and light to all His children. All you need is to open your heart directly to keep receiving what God is saying. Any son that cannot reserve directly from his father is a bastard. You agree with me? If someone must always tell you what your father wants you to do, is that not a bastard to whom the father will never speak directly? Everyone child of God can receive from God. Satan knew very well that no intelligent being is happy when idle because we were never created to be idle {Genesis 2:15} so he always figure out something to replace divine assignment that true worshipers supposed to do {Ephesians 4:14} that's why the scriptures admonished each believer to hold firm what he BELIEVES the preaching and teaching work {Hebrews 10:23} which Jesus assigned to his loyal friends {Matthew 10:11-13} because by doing so they will save themselves and those who listen to them {1Timothy 4:16} as they go from house to house sharing the GOOD NEWS of God's kingdom with their neighbors God's angels are observing and penning down their names {Malachi 3:16} that's the main reason why Christians should not miss their gathering together {Hebrews 10:24-25} because its when they gather for this purpose that Jesus will come into their midst! So no matter the research a believer is carrying out he must never ever forsake the gathering of those doing that assignment because Satan will make inexperience ones feel they are doing something tangible when they have become totally idle.

That's the same tactics he used to divert angels in heaven away from God's work and it's the same tactics he used in diverting Adam and Eve away from their divine assignment all in the name of making research.

Israelites never believe that other nations are worshiping their God apart from those under the same covenant with the God of Abraham.

Jews never believe that any other race worship their God and Jesus himself confirmed this at Jacob's well. John 4:22

Jews never believe that any other race worship their God and Jesus himself confirmed this at Jacob's well. John 4:22

Christians don't agree that any other group are worshiping their God apart from their own fellow believers.

So if you're of the opinion that worshipers from different religions with contradicting teachings and conflicting doctrines are worshiping your own God i don't from my own understanding it must be One Lord One Faith One baptism! Ephesians 4:5
