Is This A Red Flag Or He Should Stay And Observe The Month Of August by Meerahbel(op): 9:34am On Aug 30, 2024
Good Morning Mee,

Pls. what would be your advice to a new employee who receives his first on the 10th of another Monday despite resuming on the 1st of the previous month. i.e, He resumes of the 1st of July and receives his salary on the 10th of August.

Is this a red flag or he should stay and observe the month of August.

In the sense that the next salaries will always be delayed

Salary payments should start from 22nd -30th of every month under a standard working conditions

Did you discuss salary payment date with the company before you started the job?

If your answer is no, I wonder how and why you guys don't ask necessary questions before jumping into an organisation. A red flag means you are promised something and you get the opposite. Jumping into something without a proper scrutiny doesn't make the thing a red flag.

You are here crying over what you consider funny.

I will use myself as an example here. During one job interview, I was asked how much I would like to be paid per month. I first asked the interviewer my own question and got an answer before I answered his own question. I asked the interviewer to tell me the logistics that the company will provide me with. Will the company give me accommodation and cover my transportation to and from work? His answers to these questions shaped my own answer to how much I would want as my salary.

Too much dumb people dey this app, where did you see me crying?

And the example you gave, where was Salary payment date discussed? You can ask questions during interview, give figures of how much you are expecting but no one discusses date as monthly is supposed to be within 30 days, if they are paying the OP on the 10th of the next month, he is working for 40 days a month.

I really don’t understand what you are trying to defend self but you really sound dumb

You are the dumb one here for failing to understand that the "cry" here is figurative. I simply mean that you are here complaining about the date you get your salary. But you claim that discussing salary payment date with a prospective employer is funny.

Have you ever discussed salary payments date since you’ve started working or going for interviews in this life? Don’t lie

Yes. I even ask the conditions that apply to overtime duties.

Okay, tell us how you went about it and going back to the initial post, if they send you your salary on the 10th of next of month, will you not consider that a red flag for a standard organization?

- when did the company say they were paying their staff?
- when did your colleagues tell you that salaries are paid?
- what did the payslip stipulate about that payment (aka the exact dates that you were paid for)?
- do you have a better job option to go to (that you are thinking of resigning)?
Re: Is This A Red Flag Or He Should Stay And Observe The Month Of August by oazeez1991(m): 3:44pm On Aug 30, 2024
It's a cunny tactics implore by some organization in a bid to avoid staff resigning at will, knowing that someone who is yet to receive his/her salary of previous month in an ongoing month, would have a rethink before resigning, considering he/she must have worked 10-days out of the new month, this normally make it uneasy for workers to just resign as they wouldn't wanna part with their salary or offer a Pro Bono of 10-days work. Depends on how you see it as regards it been a red flag or not.

Re: Is This A Red Flag Or He Should Stay And Observe The Month Of August by wonlasewonimi: 8:12pm On Aug 30, 2024
Why do you think it's a red flag? some organisations pay their staff on the 10th of every month. This might be the case here, they just need to calculate your first 10 days and pay you accordingly

Re: Is This A Red Flag Or He Should Stay And Observe The Month Of August by Kelklein(m):
Baba.. there is no flag there

You should be happy you have a job that is paying you at all in this economy..

I know many that are willing to work on contract or commission or even voluntary basis..

If your organisation deals on sales of products, they may need to take accounts of the previous month and make provision for salaries from that.

Even If they decide to be paying you on the 15th, you adjust your expenditures and expectations to that very date.. don't look for issues where there are none.

Companies are not going through best of times rn..

It's sad that we find ourselves here. Nigerian MSMEs and big enterprise employ 85% of the workforce.. sadly we have a government so blinded by greed and selfcentredness, they can't see the need to support this important sector.

You are obviously the dumb one here.

Salary payment must not always be 25 - 30th of every month.

You were corrected: “did you ask?” No, the Op didn’t. I always do my own investigation from present and past employees before accepting any job. It is as simple as asking when is payday? Does this company miss salary payment?

There are companies that pay 10 - 15th of every month if you don’t know. It is as simple as asking to know his company’s pay day.

Stop spilling your ignorance all over this trend.

My advice is that if you like looking for jobs...then see it as a red flag and quit.

But if you are ready to work...then stop looking for red flags, this is just your first month.

Oga stop there. You lie too much. How will you discuss salary payment date. In every sense, salaries are due for payment at the end of the month or atmost 3days into the next month due to some circumstances.

exactly. It's very wrong to be new into anything and looking for red flags (negativity)

Do you that have not done it, it is a lie and may not work for you. To me that have done it repeatedly, it is true and it works for me.

You check on LinkedIn and add them.

I usually check for people that have held the role before me, a simple google search (name of role + company name + LinkedIn) gives me their Linkedin profile.
