He give you 20k you sef collect am. I understand you went through a lot but I feel you could have handled this better, you went to jail because you could not raise 50k… you didn’t want to involve your parents. I personally ignorantly should deduce you are guilty because you had no reason even going to court in the first place over a letter. It should have been settled at the station. I doubt you had a legal representative

However I have a feeling that this was the actual reason he got you arrested. You were "advising" a boss you just resigned from to learn leadership skills because of how he chose to collect his money from a fraudulent staff. That's insulting. If the client really had problems with paying into the company's account, why didn't the staff inform the boss and probably request the boss's account number instead instead of asking clients to pay into his own account? Who knows if the guy has been collecting money like that before undetected?
Even from your own account you deserved to be punished. [Maybe not 10months in jail though, but you deserved some form of punishment.]
Uncle which one of the offenses do you believe he should be punished for is a violation of law as enshrined in Nig. constitution.

let's assume the boy comes from a rich family would the Boss have succeeded in oppressing him that way

Small thing, police don charge suspect to court even for a minor case that's not criminal..it's really bad.. just to punish the person.

I read between the lines of this story, this guy is practically unemployable and has an attitude problem. He is the type that destroys staff morale and destroys people's businesses. He should better work on himself before he turns 30.

You come begging for a job, and when you get it, you resign abruptly without even a week's notice, putting the business of that person on the line. That's wicked. Why not give the notice, so he either delegate or replace you ASAP? Useless sense of entitlement of Gen Zs.

If you needed a written appointment why did you not politely ask for it? If the appointment was not formalized, why were you collecting the salary?

You even had the guts to give lectures about leadership skills, after your colleague collected money with his account, instead of the company's account, that's criminal, you truant rat. If the bank's network is not working, will you send the money to the teller's personal account at the bank if you go to deposit millions at the bank?

The fact that you are not in good terms with your disciplinarian ex-soldier father says a lot. We all know why. You lack discipline and this has led you in and out of prison at several times, and this may not be your last visit. I assure you.

Fix yourself, learn vital discipline, make peace with your Dad, and be courteous, else you will have it hot in this wicked world. My two pence.
I agree with you,but that part of official employment. He says no one works there for more than 3 months.it means that it is the type of job that you come and leave.
Do you know when the better job came?what if he was told to resume the next day or forget about the job?

The guy has some issues, which is impetousness but the boss in question abused power

One of the Cardinal points in law is that offence and punishment must be commensurate. When that doesn't happen, it amounts to injustice.
just for him to raise 30k to balance the bail condition shouldn't be a problem.

While I am against his mode of incarceration, it is hard to believe that the young man is of good character evidenced by the following...

- His father is a retired soldier
- He is not in good terms with anyone, not even his parents, or siblings
- He informed noone that he was in prison because of an existing bad reputation within the family
- He has been imprisoned before for theft
- His reason for insulting his boss was because a colleague was accused of theft
- The boss that reportedly sent him to jail also sent some money for bail
- The same boss tried to withdraw the case but couldn't

The whole story sounds like fiction
People don't call their family out of shame not ego

Any reasonable human being will know you're as useless as the in p..sychology in that your family.
You had issues with your dad
You had issues with a friend who led you to prison
You got a job, you messed up, and it led u to Prison again.
See, No matter how useless your boss it, quiting job via SmS is wrong and disrespectful but it should not lead anyone to prison.

The court granted a fine of 100k. They had mercy by reducing by half, yet you couldn't afford to pay and not a single person in your family or friends who can help you. Omo!

My conclusion is that you're a bad person.
My advice; go back home and make things with your family.
The way you people reason sha.

He has flaws but to call him bad doesn't make sense.

I am so sorry this guy acted foolishly, I guess being a naïve got him into this mess. It doesn't make any sense at all you resigned and afterwards told your Boss to learn leadership. These are the kind of guys who gang up against there Boss or there Boss becomes a Topic to be discussed once He's not in the Office. As much as I frown at maltreating a staff, I think discipline is important on the employee's part as well. I have worked with Boss who I can never pray to come across again in my life and when you're dealing with people knowing what they are capable of, you need to thread carefully. Nobody forced you to work with him, therefore, you need to accept the fact that you put yourself in that situation. I once resigned a Job like last year and I applied alot of wisdom. I just didn't show up at work for two days by the time they called me I gave an excuse politely, when I got to work and they told me I was fired I was very Happy within me come and see insult back to back from the Man and other colleague, I know what would have happened it was outside work but I played the gentle guy looking like a dove. Knowing that day was the last day of such trash. I moved on knowing they can't try such with me outside. The 26yrs old boy have no business sending him any text message, what was he expecting and what could be more insulting than for an employee to text his Boss to learn Leadership?? I'm sure he has leant his lessons in Prison.

The boss doesn't even seem like a heartless person from the story

He is just someone who has anger issues and a huge ego

The boy no get sense- telling his boss that he should go for mgmt classes..did his boss ask for his opinion?
Re: I Spent 10 Months In Prison For Resigning Via SMS — 26-Year-Old Photography by Nobody: 9:50am On Aug 31, 2024
The issue with the boy could be attitudinal but it is unfair to call him bad or write him off. I for once applaud him for being honest. He didn't paint his boss in the bad light. He acknowledged the boss helped. If he were that bad,his friend will not have agreed to settle amicably.

Neither will the boss withdraw the case or even pay part.

Don't conclude on his family, shame will prevent anyone from letting their parents know they are convicted twice.

Hopefully he learns his lesson and get better opportunity

Even if 50k has an option of jail term, it shouldn't be up to ten months, infact it seemed indefinite if not that some good samaritan came to his help. A community service or maximum of few weeks remand should have suffice. Our criminal justice system is riddled with gross injustices.

This guy here is not telling the whole truth.
1. He had been in prison before for theft.
2. He violated a six month probation term without telling us the conditions attached.
3. He abused his boss.
4. He defended a staff who had used his private account to receive company funds. That one nor be thief? huh
5. He claimed he had freelance jobs that comfortably paid his bills, yet he condescended to taking a job that didn't pay much. grin
6. He has problem with his family.
7. He could not call one person to come to his aid before the case escalated. He must be in nobody's good books.

We must stop being emotional. Some bosses maybe high-handed but some employees are dubious crooks. This guy is a sleek criminal who has good work skills. I have dealt with dubious staff, so I am not emotional when listening to stories like this one.

Those people blaming the guy outrightly forget that this could be indefinite. If we refuse to speak out because this victim has attitudunal problem, what of those without attitudunal problem that will continue to be jailed for years?

A girl was jailed because she married her boyfriend without her sugar daddy consent( who was a married man). Will we say we would not condemn it because she is promiscuous?

I hope we also extend this advice of being courteous to men on this forum that insult and bash women under the umbrella of freedom of speech or uncomfortable truth..it seems we only care about careful speech when someone in power is involved and that is hypocrisy

Yeah you're right about the faulty System but for him to raise 50k shouldn't be difficult. It was his inability to 30k that kept him in prison.

It was the faulty system that almost kept him indefinitely in jail. It is another lie and injustice to overlook that. In a sane climate, he wouldn't spend up to ten months in prison for being unable to pay 50k. Don't get it twisted please.

It is not unusual for fine to have commensurate jail term option. So because he couldn't pay 50k, he should rot in jail?

If your text message was about resignation, why were you arrested for insulting him in the same text?
That’s not true. The message I sent on 10 October 2023 stated that I was no longer interested in working with him. To further explain my reason for resigning, I sent another text on October 14, advising him to learn leadership and management skill because of how he humiliated a colleague who collected N125,000 from a client into his personal account since the customer couldn’t pay into the company’s account.
He says he didn't insult his boss but he had the temerity to tell him via sms that he lacked leadership and managerial skills for a business he has been running before he ever met him.

What is wrong with children of nowadays? Did he set up the business for the man?

Nigerians generally operate in master and slave relationship mode. Everything is a power tussle and not partnership. Even marriage, head and neck .

For someone who has never worked with a Nigerian ( or black) with the exception of nysc I find it strange.
You will be chatting with a "staff" that walks and gists with you, then later you will realize it's actually the CEO of the company.

Here, when you resign, they will ask you of your experience and if you there is any way they could have improve.

Employee welfare matters alot.
How people work for only three months at most and leave is not a red flag anyone observed. And how two people are arrested in a short space of time from same company makes no sense. Why you accuse someone of theft falsely says alot of the company
You don't call people thieves randomly, until auditing is done. It's when you try to balance account and then is shortage you make accusations. Not that at the onset of a staff receiving money to the personal account you arrest the person.

The colleague collected the money and later on transferred it to the company. That is the full gist.

Any business owner knows this happens. If someone steals, you ask for refund and sack,we have belittled police alot by invoking them in trival issues
Stealing is not trivial.
It is a well defined crime in every country!

The colleague refunded after police involvement.
Moreover, if a business have a policy against employees accepting payment into private account,
then all employees must follow such even if it means losing business.
