I know where you're driving at. The minister is from the North where child marriage is prevalent. grin Legally speaking, the minimum age for marriage in Nigeria is 18, as set by the constitution. However, this law is often bypassed, just like the minimum age requirement for university admission. "Child marriage" remains a significant issue in the northern region, where many people consider girls between the ages of 14 to 16 as suitable for marriage.

The southern part of Nigeria also faces challenges related to "underage prostitution". In the southeast, in addition to child prostitution, there are instances of "baby factories" where girls as young as 13 to 16 are sexually exploited, and their babies are sold. If authorities were to "prosecute" the perpetrators of these crimes (child marriage and child prostitution), prisons would be filled with offenders from all regions of the country. grin

Many Northerners would rather give their underage girls in marriage than see them engage in child prostitution. The prevalence of early marriage in Northern Nigeria can be attributed to poverty, cultural practices, and religious beliefs, which were once also practiced in the southern part of Nigeria as part of their culture. In the south, poverty is the primary driving factor behind child prostitution. With this in mind, it's difficult to label any particular region as being free from societal issues.

Shalom!
So according to you prostitution isn't practiçed in the North. May you have sense o.

I support FG on this one. Too many kids going to higher institution these days. The worst part is that most of these kids are products of Ignoramuses. Parents who can not even address a crowd. Parents who doesn't know what education entails. All they know is to keep pushing the child. This is the major reason we have so many yahoo boys in most higher institution today. Teens who buys car, furnished their houses, while their parents are poor at home.
So all Yahoo Boys are teens? No 18 year olds and over are yahoo Boys? Una too daft for this Country hence we have such an old fool as Minister of Education. Backward county.

The question is, why would a child be out of "basic" by 16? If you enroll your children in school at the appropriate age, 18 is exactly the age they should finish at, as is done almost everywhere in the world. So where are the parents rushing him or her to, and why? Do you realize that mental development occurs in stages and the average child is not ready for university life and university-level work by 16?
You are damn wrong.

You are crazy to think 18 is appropriate. I.am.sure you are childless. Or just like you, your children have empty skulls.

You are a lunatic. That you have children with dead brains doesn't mean you should support backwardness. So when they are 18, it's okay to pay their way through yeah. it's the young age of progression that is obviously getting to you. Empty skull like that of the gworo analogue old fool Minister.

huh

Nigeria is a backward country, how do we get young aspiring people when we have limited the age they are supposed to progress in their life?

Honestly, this country is not for me
There is some hidden evil agenda behind this. The North has many children out of school yet the Minister is not concerned about getting them into school. He is only interested in setting our children in the South backwards for no valid reason.

That actually good. Considering the fact that Mental maturity is needed to excel in some top courses in the Uni

I know there are exceptional cases whereby a 17year old student can top his class in the Uni, but exceptions dont make the rules

If you do not understand the relationship between age-dependent higher cognitive reasoning and Academic excellence, then I wont be surprised to see u attack this good development
Good development to set innocent children backwards? May God punish you and set you backwards in all spheres and endeavors of your life. Your children and grandchildren included.

STFU!

If you never paid your way through the process. You will get there at about 18.

Y’all acting innocent like you don’t know what goes on.

Every child is now brilliant in the country, thanks to their parents.

Pay for double promotion, pay for simple common entrance and admission into top schools.

Stop acting like you don’t know the norms in Nigeria today. It’s mostly paid for.

Any child that surly went through the system will graduate about that time. Not those who had 3 double promotions in primary school then took WAEC from SS1, courtesy of the their parents

Yes your age is normal, unlike the fellow who was trying to rationalize the existence of age 12 - 15 in SS3.

16yrs should be set as the minimum for entry into tertiary institutions. While 5yrs should be set as the minimum into Pry1.

Even 35 year olds pay their way through . I know you won't mind for a 35 year old to do that because you are just irked that you are old, bitter, unintelligent like your gworo daft Minister who thinks from the anus just like you do. We will take the matter to Court. He has no right to set children back. If you are allowed to enter Unity Schools at 10 why the sudden attack on 16 year olds? May God set you ablaze.

This is quite retrogressive in this day and age of advanced technology.

I left secondary school at age 15, almost 3 decades ago. Qualified through JAMB at age 16, and it has been a great ride of life afterwards.

Presently, the average age to sit for WAEC/NECO for 6 sets of students in Secondary School is 16 years. What provision is in place for the proposed 2-year minimum lag? Should they just stop at their present class of study and continue when they fit the 18 years model?

Or, will the FG provide and encourage vocational centers for all to bridge the Post Secondary School/ Pre-University stage? If this is in place, it will make load of sense. Otherwise, it will be unfair to plunge our future leaders to an unfair loss of competitive advantage among their global peers
The Minister finished Higher Education at over 30. So I understand his frustration. We need to double check that his Educational Certificates are genuine because the old man is clearly clueless. He is over 70 and should be home resting his tired dysfunctional brain or spoon-feeding his grand children. Failed Government.

How is it good? Employers want candidates below 23. Writing the exam at 18 means you are getting admitted at 19. Make it make sense. Is the Minister of Education truly educated or he sold his dysfunctional, obviously tired brain in exchange for gworo?

In this age where maturity occurs early, we are supposed to be moving with the tides.

This very move is retrogressive, and do not portray best practices.

16 years is perfect for WAEC; but 18? Nah... That's too late!

Marriageable age should also be 18, if they want this policy to stand!!!
The Minister is over 70 years. What is he still doing working in Government Service. There should be a peg on the ages of these Government Appointees. The man appears to be suffering from brain related ailments.
