Retailers in Nigeria have been using insecticides to preserve beans for God knows how long. There has not been any report of its intended use to poison buyers.

There are reports of use of Sniper to preserve beans by retailers all across Nigeria.

In 2018 the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) issued an alert to Nigerians about this incident. The alert even warned Nigerians against extensive parboiling of beans based on this concern
