Melagros:Less than 15% of our power comes from hydro. The reason power has increased in because gencos are now getting their money courtesy of band A That is why power companies like geregu oando are rising on the stock exchange. |

The thread is thin because people don't want to acknowledge good news from this government. A few months ago, threads after threads were about how Nigeria is a jungle due to lack of power and this government is the worst ever. For at least 2 - 3 months now, power supply been been improving slowly. Rather than acknowledge the good news, bitter people will read the thread, hiss to themselves and quietly move to other threads where they can vocalise their histrionics ![]() Personally, I believe this is the best President Nigeria has had for a long term. Things will start improving on many fronts soon. |

FILEBE:I like your take however rural electrication is complicated. I served in a village that didn't have light for more than 3 years. When I asked around, I was told most villagers owed millions of naira. They could not pay as little as 2k naira per month as at 8 years ago. Unless government can invest in cheaper alternatives, most of these villagers can't afford stable electricity. Even those in Lagos and Abuja on band A are lamenting.. What's the way forward |

South Africa is generating close to 40'000 megawatts. We are still perpetually stuck at 5000megawatts which may drop to 0 megawatts in the next few days. The way we celebrate mediocrity in this country is alarming. No wonder they stopped the jingle that had the line 'hold the government accountable " 5000 megawatts yet many Nigerians are still stuck in darkness for days. |

Power is improving for those on band a and b who reside in the city. Ask those on band c, d, e. No improvement. All discos are servicing those on a and b to detriment of others |

| Re: Power Generation Hits 5,313MW, Highest In Three Years by nairalanda1(m): 12:24pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
themanderon:Yes, because the South Africans don't do subsidised power. So, they have cash to pay for improvements and expansion We have done subsidised power for years, and as a result, there isn't enough profit to fix things. But any suggestion to increase power tarrifs to at least N200 per kwh is met with 'we are too poor'...so we get what we pay for. |
| Re: Power Generation Hits 5,313MW, Highest In Three Years by nairalanda1(m): 12:25pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
nedu666:Band A is paying market price for power, so they get improved power Band C and D and E Pay subsidised prices, so they get shitty power. Band B does not get as good as band A (I am on band B). |
| Re: Power Generation Hits 5,313MW, Highest In Three Years by nairalanda1(m): 12:27pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
DeLaRue:It is bad news in a way. We have been on 5000-6000 mw since 2011. No improvement, no moving forward...because governments including this one don't want to charge market price for power....as it is unpopular politically So, the sector is starved of funds and cannot attract the investment (estimated by stakeholders to be 10 bn dollars annually) to improve power. |

We are in raining season, you should expect power generation to increase |

nairalanda1:You this advocate of APC and their poverty inducing policies supporter have come again. Who told you the government doesn't subsidize electricity? Which government doesn't subsidize basic amenities for its citizens? Is it the Chinese that spends billions to subsidize electricity so the manufacturing sector can produce more? Is it the Americans that subsidize their farmers and help them grow more food? Is it the Europeans? Why is Nigeria so poor? NIGERIA is poor because the criminals in power are simply helping themselves to the resources of the country at expense of the people. It's like you are one of them that's why you come here to spill rubbish in support of these rogues |

themanderon:You whom seventeen succubi and fifteen demonesses are fighting over, and who is married to a fallen angel with long blonde hair, you have come again. Who told you the government doesn't subsidize electricity? This government does, which is why you are an APC supporter. I think they are wrong, which is why I am apolitical. Which government doesn't subsidize basic amenities for its citizens? Most don't. Those who do subsidise it for the very very very poor...and it involves some form of means testing. They also pay for such subsides with heavy taxation...beyond the worst that APC can imagine for Nigerians. And many of those subsidy don't involve government forcing the power sector to sell at a loss...more often than not it is in the form of tax breaks, and grants. And at the end the sector still makes a profit It costs N160-170 to make one kwh of power. Excpet for band A , who make up 20% of all consumers...most pay around N50-70 per kwh. Meaning the sector loses money from 80% of its customers who pay. And with shitty oil revenues, mass corruption and poor tax to gdp ratio, as well as a debt to gdp service ratio that is still high as high....the government owes trillions of naira in subsidy payments. Is it the Chinese that spends billions to subsidize electricity so the manufacturing sector can produce more? Is it the Americans that subsidize their farmers and help them grow more food? Is it the Europeans?China, America and Europe are all industrial nations with high tax uptakes, and who allow their power sectors run at a profit...which is why they can afford to pay for improvements to power Again, subsides there are for the very very very poor, or are in the form of produiction subsides...not the explicit subsides we do here which are expensive, unsustainable, and driving us into debt...and making it difficult for the power sector to make a profit and attract investment. Also, if you don't pay for the power you use in china, america and europe...you get into trobule with the law. IN NIgeria, you get hailed as a hero. And then you wonder why you don't have light.... Why is Nigeria so poor? NIGERIA is poor because the criminals in power are simply helping themselves to the resources of the country at expense of the people. It's like you are one of them that's why you come here to spill rubbish in support of these roguesThat is part of why Nigeria is so poor. Our budget for this year in dollars is 18 billion. For a nation of 200 million people, that is SCANTY. And note, that is before stealing and looting comes in...so if there was no stealing or looting, it would still be the same issue....we would still be poor. That is why corruption needs to be treated as a serious problem...and why I kind of feel sad APC Is doing nothing about it (and why I am too angry to vote for either APC or PDP or even LP AND NNPP...all the same thing). Rich nations are nations that do not rely on one resource...they are either industrialixed and relying on resources. (Saudi , if oil should become redundant, whould be broke in seconds...and they know it). That is why America, Europe and China can affrod to pay subsides...limited, not explicit...because they are industrial nations that export industrial goods. And that is why this tinubu government is useless, and all other governments are useless, because none of them have taken Nigeria down that path...instead na to sell raw materials, share the money...while the develiped countries take our raw materials , make expensive stuff, and sell it back to us, and take back their money plus extra. That is why we are poor. |

Melagros:Shut up. Light has been regular for at least 4 hours per day in my areas for almost a month before. And I believe as production increases so also will supply increase. At least there's a definite improvement. But this certainly will not be to the joy of race of people who import refurbished generator in the country in the name of their criminal businesse. Everything is negative to their ultra-minds and poor understanding of issues. |
