Hmmm... Okay, what if I said I had been into pigs since the year 2002. You heard that right... Since 2002 (Exactly the year I finished my ND in Yabatech). Well,I rarely talk about it because it's a sensitive topic for me. .

I remember my first 3 pigs, Browny, Hercules and Sandra. They were my most priced possession. God bless my Sister who always helped out in feeding and bathing them whenever I was away to further my education. I could remember a certain time I came back from school and was so scared of going into their pens. They were so big and scary that I could not even go near the closed pens. My kid sister had a good laugh ehn... . She just jumped into the pen, pulled Hercules by the ear (He was the biggest), and shoved it to the corner, and started cleaning the pens. Omo, that was when I knew my kid sister had superpowers...

Over the years, I have had to keep running the pig business, even through the ups and downs. I just love those creatures I swear. All the times I had goats, they were there. Through my Ugu experiments, they were there. Lol... My Noilers, Foreign Turkeys, Etc... The pigs were always there.

If only they could revolt why I never talked about them. Not even once have I made mention of them except when I talk of manures ...

Meet the Pigs

21 years of pig farming isn't moi-moi. Only the very few people who have visited my farm in ogun state have seen this lovely aspect of mine. I call them my family (The pigs) .

Wait, let me start by Showing my my Crocs. Walahi, this Crocs has been with me through thick and thin... You can never imagine where we have been together. I love you dieeeee. When I tell people I bought this Crocs for N45k, people just look at me and say, hope say u normal? Why you go carry 45k go buy Crocs? ....

Just like every aspect of the farming business, raising pigs now is not for the weak ooo!!! Your capital base must be robus. Nevertheless, there is much gain in it. Moreover, over here, pork meat sells like craze. Egun people over here no dey use eye see am. If you never kill pig for your party, you never do am.

Lol @ my sister. She literally saw them grow from little piglets into the ugly looking monstrous swine's. .

That is another thing entirely. Will explain in details as the thread develops. Nevertheless, their diet ranges from Soybeans, Maize, dried cassavas peels, spent gains, cerelac/golden morn (chai... I follow chop this one Wella... ), vegetables / greens from my chopped plantain trees, waterleaves etc.

And Yes... I do use their manure only when completely cured & dried. The smell from their waste fit frustrate person comot for farm if not managed properly

That explains the reason why she could easily handle them without being scared of them being aggressive towards her. Because she practically nurtured them.
She was like their mummy. 😀

Oh.. me bad. What I mean by curing is simply composting the manure Oga mi. By doing this, it is ready to be used directly on the crops, no smells, most if the disease causing pathogens have been killed off etc. It smells like good soil by now. You can hardly ever tell it is pig manure after composting it.

By His grace, I will upload pictures of my compost site tomorrow.

Lol... Most are Nestle waste ooo!!! Although I sometimes consume the golden morn. But I strictly advice against anyone eating it biko. .

You actually did mention them briefly before. That was the time when you mentioned that your thousand chicken project collapsed as a result of some evil people and that your handler left the farm by dropping the note at the farm gate, leaving the animals in a sorry state.

I wanted to ask this question, then I thought curing might mean drying the dung in the sun.

Honestly, I have been racking my brain for months now about what profitable and less risky farming business to venture into... I have thought of goats, ugwu planting, piggery, etc. As an experienced person, what will you suggest I venture into? Thanks and God bless you
