The more you know Jesus the less the hold of sin over you. 1 John 3:9 - if you are born of God, you will (gradually) lose your ability to continue in sin. Not because you know sin and you're consciously avoiding it, but because the Spirit makes you to be unattracted to sin and temptations.

IDOLS don't necessarily mean spiritual entities.
It also means things material or otherwise that take the place of God in one's life.These things take up all of the person's attention, devotion and love when he's unhealthily involved in them albeit obsessed and they become IDOLS in his or her life.
When they do, they prevent his developing and maintaining a personal relationship with God.
Things that can become IDOLS in a man's life include:
1. Watching soccer matches.
2.Gambling.
3.Fashion consciousness.
4.Clubbing.
5.Engaging with worldly songs and their live concerts.
6.Recreational activities like Hiking, Yachting, playing soccer,et.c.
7.Bodybuilding .
8.Infatuation with Money, Alcohol,Parties.
There are people who would rather miss church service than the match in soccer featuring their favourite players and clubs, should it happen to be on a Sunday.
There are people who worship celebrities and would go any length which they would never for God, just to be acquainted with those celebrities.
